Sky Schuller 100m Hurdle & Pole Vault Area Champion

April 15th was a rainy day in Coppell at Buddy Echols Field.  But that didn’t stop 18 Coppell Varsity athletes from battling the weather and putting up impressive scores that have advanced them to the UIL Region 1 Track Meet where they will vie for positions to compete at the Texas State meet. 

Coppell hosted 5-6A & 6-6A Area meet on April 15th where the top four (4) finishers in each event move on to the Regional Meet to be held in Arlington on April 23 -24th.  Overall team standings: the men’s varsity team finished tied for 5th place and the women’s varsity finished in 2nd place.  

  • In addition to 3 Area champions named from the Coppell line up, Sophomore Waverly Hassman set a new school record again in the 800m with a time of 2:09.50.  Her record breaking run was just as impressive as her 3rd place finish in the 400 meter run with a time of 57:92 and then followed up with a 3rd place finish in the women’s 4X400 meter relay with a time of 3:53.58. 

  • Sophomore Megan Judd is the new Women’s Area Champion in the high jump with a jump of 5’4”.

  • Sophomore Sky Schuller is the new Women’s Area Champion in both the pole vault with a jump of 12’6” and the 100 meter hurdle run with a time of 14.67.  Sky also qualified in 3 other individual events including a 2nd place finish in high jump, a 2nd place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a PR of 44.18, and a 4th place finish in the long jump with a jump of 17’8.75”; giving her qualification in 5 total events. 

  • Senior Evan Caswell is the new Men’s Area Champion in the 3200 meter run with a 1st place finish of 9:29.01. 

Joining Sky, Megan, and Waverly from the women’s team are 4 other varsity athletes who have also qualified to compete at Regionals.  Those women include the other 3 members of the 4x400 meter relay team (Olivia Marez, Morgan Colon, and Emma Sherrer), Kinley Wojick with a 4th place finish in pole vault with a jump of 11’, and Olivia Marez with a 4th place finish in the 400 meter run with a time of 57.99. 

Joining Evan from the men’s team are 10 other varsity athletes who have also qualified to compete at Regionals.  Those men include Gabe Sosa, Geoffrey Williams, Braden Axe, & Muhammad Seif in the 4x200 Meter Relay; finishing 3rd with a time of 1:29.57.  Gabe and Geoffrey also teamed up with Rith Bhattacharyya, and Akil Daresalamwala to finish 3rd in the 4x400 Meter relay with a time of 3:24.38.   In addition to the relays, Colin Proctor qualified in the 1600 meter run with a 4th place finish at 4:25.31; Reese Pokluda and Michael Nancey both qualified in pole vault with a 3rd & 4th Place finish both at 15’.  Rounding out the men’s events was a 4th place finish by Ryan Sewell throwing the Discus 146’6”. 

The next meet will be April 23-24, the Region 1 6A Track Meet at University of Texas in Arlington.  We wish these athletes the best of luck representing the Coppell High School Track and Field Program!
