Varsity Women line up for the 3200 meter at the Coppell Relays last Saturday.

Coppell High School Track & Field hosted the Coppell Relays at Coppell High School last Saturday, February 27.  Fifteen (15) area high schools participated in the meet including top track & field programs of Southlake Carroll, Lewisville Marcus, Arlington Martin, and Plano West.   Southlake Carroll won the Men’s Varsity division and Lewisville Marcus won the Women’s Varsity division.  The Coppell Men’s Varsity team finished in a strong 4th place. 

Zach Dicken, Junior, & Colin Echols, Senior, were the Coppell Men’s Varsity team leaders.   Dicken placed 2nd in the 400 meter with a time of 49.30 seconds, 2nd in the Triple Jump at 44 feet, and 3rd in the Long Jump at 21 feet 3 inches.  Echols placed 1st in the Discus Throw at 183 feet, and 2nd in the Shot Put at 50 feet 5.5 inches.  Senior, Andrew Battleson also led the team with a 2nd  place finish in the High Jump at 6 feet 2 inches.

Juniors, Victoria Kellett and Lauren Cunningham were the team leaders for the Coppell Women’s Varsity.  Kellett placed 3rd in the Long Jump at 16 feet 7.5 inches, 4th in the 100 meter hurdles at 15.80, and 5th in 300 hurdles at 49.25.  Cunningham placed 3rd in the 400 meter at 1:00.50.  The 4x400 Relay team  of Lauren Cunningham, Kaitlyn Hernandez, Bryce Utter, and Senae Martin finished in 3rd place with a time of 4:14.90.   Other team leaders included Junior, Chidera Nwaiwu, 4th in the Shot Put at 30 feet 9 inches; and Freshman, Kathryn Walker, 4th in the Discus Throw at 93 feet 1 inch. 

The Coppell Boys Junior Varsity team had good results in the field events.  Sophomore, Matthew Dicken, placed 2nd in the Triple Jump at 40 feet 9 inches.  Freshman, Jay Dempsey, placed 2nd in the Discus Throw at 112 ft 11 inches.  Sophomore, Kevin Gough, placed 3rd in the Pole Vault at 11 feet.   On the track, Coppell led the 800 meters with Sophomore, Jacob Turman finishing 1st at 2:02.66, and Junior, Tyler Briscoe, 3rd at 2:07.67. 

The Coppell Girls Junior Varsity team dominated the Pole Vault competition.  Juniors, Alex Bowles and Lauren Stukey, placed 1st and 2nd with results of 9 feet and 8 feet 6 inches.  Sophomore, Sena Buatsi, placed 2nd in the Triple Jump at 30 feet 3.5 inches.  Freshman, Alyssa Lindberg, placed 2nd in the 100 meter with a time of 13.22.

Coppell Track & Field will participate in the Lewisville Goldsmith Relays on Thursday, March 3 at Lewisville High School.
