With three meets down and two to go before the District 9 6A Championships, the Coppell Cross Country Team continues to hold their own with the best.   Saturday they competed in the Flower Mound Invitational with over 15 other teams for the 5K races at Gerault Park.  First on the course were the Varsity Girls who came in 4th place overall against 9 other 6A schools.  Maddie Hulcy who has been consistently leading the Coppell girls team was the top finisher again this week coming in 7th place overall in 19:08.2, followed by another steady runner for Coppell,  freshman Sydney Rowe in 20th place in 19:58.99.  Izzy Iseley, Cali Westervelt and Jimena Benavides also led the cowgirls to the finish in 25th, 28th and 29th place respectively. 

The Varsity Boys race was a close one with Coppell coming in 2nd overall for 6A teams behind host team Flower Mound.  Nathan Sims led Coppell again this week with an impressive 5th place finish in a time of 16:10.81. Teammates Jacob Turman, Alan Huo, Grant Reese and Marcos Bohn crossed the line close behind in 10th, 11th, 15th and 16th place. 

In the JV girls division, Coppell also brought home the 2nd place trophy just edged out by Marcus High School.  It was a tight race for the top 4 runners for Coppell all finishing within 12 seconds of each other.  Freshman Gracie McKethan came in 4th place with a time of 20:56.58 followed closely by Taylor Peltier in 5th, Shelby Spoor in 6th and Joni Goh in 7th.  Catie Kimball rounded out the top five in 16th place. 

The JV boys also ran a close race pushing each other to sprint to finish.  AJ Rothwell  was the top finisher for the Cowboys coming in 6th place followed brothers Troy and Tyler Briscoe and Justin Chow with less than a second separating them for 10th, 11th, and 12th place.   Fabian Lugo finished close behind in 15th place helping his team to third place overall.

Coppell’s runners have an off week from competing before the Varsity Team travels to Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock, TX on Saturday Oct 1st for the Mc Neil Invitational.  The JV teams will compete in the Dallas Jesuit Classic at Norbuck Park in Dallas that same weekend.
