Coppell Cross Country Teams Face Top Competition at 28th Annual Marcus I Invitational

 

Coppell Cross Country Teams faced tough competition this week as they ran against the best teams from around the state of Texas and across the border from Arkansas and Oklahoma at the Marcus I Invitational held at North Lakes Park in Denton.  The Labor Day Weekend race showcases many of the fastest runners in the state from over 40 teams running in 4 different divisions.  All of Coppell’s teams finished in the top ten, beginning with the Varsity Girls Elite division.  Sophomore Maddie Hulcy (19:46.31) was Coppell’s leading runner finishing 37th out of 229 runners, followed by Sydney Rowe, Ardie Saunders, Isabella Iseley and Miranda Dickson all helping their team to a tenth place finish.

In the Varsity boys Elite Division, Coppell brought home a sixth place finish with Nathan Sims(16:22.90) leading the way in 27th place.  Alan Huo was close behind in 38th place followed by Jake Turman, Grant Reese and Jackson Walker. 

The Varsity Open division raced next with the Coppell girls’ team finishing in 7th place.  Senior Ashley Scrivner (21:26.54) had the fastest time for the Cowgirls coming in 37th place, with Freshman Gracie McKethan just on her heels in 38th.  Jimena Benavides, Anna Guzniczak and Hannah Pridgen were also top finishers for Coppell.

Coppell’s Varsity Open Boys runners came in an impressive 5th place out of 41 teams with Sophomore Marcos Bohn leading the pack in 16thplace with a time of (17:18.96).   He was followed by Garret Freddo, Kaz Carlson, Troy Briscoe and Justin Chow.

Running in the JV Elite division, senior Darby Shepard, coming in 27th overall, led the Coppell girls to a 7th place team finish.  She was supported by Hannah Bauer, June Poopanead, Kaitlin Reznick and Dani Flores. 

The JV Elite boys were the highest placing Coppell team at the meet beating out over 30 other teams finishing in second place to rival Southlake.  Over 400 boys ran the race and five of Coppell’s runners finished in the top fifteen:   Freshman Daniel Ingrisan in 7th, Andres Abrego Guerra in 10th, Fernando Cornejo in 13th, followed by Troy Briscoe and AJ Rothwell in 14th and 15th

The final races for Coppell were the girls and boys Open JV division.  On the girls side, Catie Kimball (4th place)led her team to a 5th place finish with help from teammates Abby Yeon, Alex Bowles, Lasya Manne and Anu Uppal.  The JV boys came in 9th place with Andrew Thompson leading his team finishing 21st overall.   Other top runners for the Coppell boys were Anthony Rychlinski, Joseph Chen, Swoad Rahman, and Nathaniel Leach. 

Running against the best in the state is a great way to prepare for the rest of the season.  Coppell Cross Country teams will be at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie next Saturday Sept. 10th at 7:00am for the Gerald Richey invitational.
