Coppell Cross Country Teams Dominate at Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational

The Coppell High School Cross Country team nearly swept all races at the 2016 Waxahachie Woodhouse Invitational on Saturday, August 27.  The Varsity Boys, JV Boys, and the JV Girls teams all came away with the first place trophy,  and the Varsity Girls finished in a strong 2nd just edged out by Mansfield.

 In the Varsity Boys race, seven out of the top ten finishers came from Coppell.  Seniors Nathan Sims (16:12.3) and Alan Huo led the  Cowboys in second and third place, followed by Grant Reese, Jacob Thurman, Jackson Walker, Cole Linbeck and Grant Evans.   Just as impressive were the Coppell JV boys who claimed the first seven places in their race.  Sophomore Andrew Mares-Camarena won with a time of 17:44.6 followed by teammates Kazmir Carson-Phelan, Andres Abrego Guerra, AJ Rothwell, Tyler Briscoe, Fernando Cornejo and Daniel Igrisan.

On the Varsity girls’ side, it was another strong week for Sophomore Maddie Hulcy coming in second with a time of 19:17.6.  Other top finishers for the Coppell Varsity girls were Junior Ardie Saunders in 11 place followed by freshmen Sydney Rowe and Isabella Iseley in 12th and 14th place.   Another group of freshman girls helped lead the JV Girls to their first place finish.  Anna Guzniczack came in second with a time of 21:56.2 followed by June Poopanead and Hannah Bauer in 3rd and 4th place.  Also finishing in the top10 were Kaitlin Reznicek, Darby Shepard and Hannah Switzer. 

Next week, the team  heads  to North Lakes Park in Denton for the Marcus I Invitational on Saturday September 3rd.  The meet begins at 7:00 am.
