It was top honors for all four Coppell Cross Country teams at the 2016 District 9 6A Championships held at Norbuck Park in Dallas on Oct. 18th.  Despite the unseasonably high October  temperatures and humidity, Coppell proved they could handle any conditions by finishing first in all four races by beating out the seven other teams in the district including Jesuit, Skyline, White, Richardson, Berkner, Lake Highlands and Pearce High Schools.

The morning began with the Varsity Girls race where five of Coppell’s runners finished in the top ten earning a medal.  Junior Ardie Saunders was the top finisher for Coppell coming in 2nd place over all followed closely by Maddie Hulcy in 3rd, Izzie Iseley in 4th,  Sydney Rowe in 6th  and Jimena Benavides in 7th place.

Coppell also dominated the Varsity Boys race with medals going to Senior Nathan Sims in 3rd place, Grant Reese in 4th, Alan Huo in 5th, and Jacob Turman in 10th.  Just missing a top ten finish was Kaz Carson Phelan in 11th place.

Coppell showed its depth of talent in the JV girls race by taking all top ten places.   Miranda Dickson won the race and fellow Senior Cali Westervelt finished in a close 2nd.  They were followed by medalists Taylor Peltier, Joni Goh, June Poopanead, Darby Shepard, Kaitlin Reznick, Hannah Pridgen, Gracie McKethan and Catie Kimball finishing 3rd through 10th place.

In similar fashion, the JV boys claimed the top 9 spots at the finish line.  Senior Troy Briscoe crossed first  and was followed by Jackson Walker, Andres Abrego Guerra and Matteo Agius  in 2nd 3rd and 4th place all finishing within 3 seconds of each other.  Other medalists for Coppell were Fabian Lugo in 6th place,  Tyler Briscoe in 7th, Cole Lindbeck in 8th and Justin Chow in 9th.

For the Varsity Teams, a first place finish in the District Championships earned them a trip to the Region 2 6A Championship meet on Saturday, October 29th at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.  The top four teams from the Region and the top 10 individual finishers will advance to the State meet to be held in Round Rock, Texas  on November 12.
