The Coppell Republican Women were privileged to host an ice cream social for residents at River Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care of Coppell in August 2015.  Members of the Coppell Republican Women served the residents ice cream sundaes and enjoyed lively conversation with them. One of the residents was presented a certificate of Honorary Membership in the club.

President Ronald Reagan proclaimed the first Senior Citizens Day on August 21, 1988.  In his proclamation he stated “Throughout our history, older people have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country. That remains true today, and gives us ample reason this year to reserve a special day in honor of the senior citizens who mean so much to our land.” We were pleased to celebrate Senior Citizens Day in August 2015 and look forward to celebrating with them again.

Coppell Republican Women will meet on May 3, 2015. This month, we welcome Kristen Richards, Director of Community Relations and Volunteers for Traffick911, who will educate us on the sex slave trade in Texas and what we can do to help prevent, rescue and restore those who have been enslaved. Please join us for a very enlightening meeting.

Human trafficking is modern-day slavery; the buying and selling of humans. We only thought slavery ended with the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s alive and well today with more slaves than at any point in history. In fact, there are twice as many slaves today as during the entire trans-Atlantic slave trade. The two most common forms of human trafficking are sexual slavery and forced labor.

It is the fastest-growing crime in the world, with the perpetrators making $32 billion a year buying and selling people for their profit and pleasure. The profits are huge and the risk of being prosecuted are slim- the United Nations says 99% of victims are never rescued.--Traffick911 website

Meeting begins with social time and light refreshments at 3 pm at the Coppell Biodiversity Center, 367 S. Freeport Parkway, Coppell, Texas.
