At this week's District 5-5A Track meet in Flower Mound, Coppell junior Carson Vickroy set program records in the 1,600m (4:22.34) and 3,200m (9:17.16). The Cowboys Varsity team finished the meet in Third Place, while the Cowgirls took home Silver.

After bad weather closed the track on Wednesday, March 10,it was a District 5-5A showdown in Flower Mound on Thursday and Friday, April 11-12, 2013. Track athletes from Coppell, Denton Ryan, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Hebron and Marcus were all competing for the top four spots in each event, which would earn them the opportunity to advance to the 5A-Area 3 meet to be held at Coppell High School on April 18-19.

After two days of hard-fought competition, The Coppell Cowgirls took Second Place in District 5-5A, and will send 14 athletes to the Area meet. 5-5A District Champions were Sarah Agnew in Pole Vault and Cassidy Pickrell in High Jump, as well as the 4x400m Relay team of Leah Yates, Chiamaka Ukoha, Sierra Andres and Bailey Bedichek. Silver Medals were won by Andres in 400m Dash, Chiamaka Ukoha in Triple Jump, Alex Fuselier in Pole Vault, Rachel Johnson in Shot Put, and the 4x200m Relay team of Bedichek, Ukoha, Marian McRae and Adaiwu Nwaiwu. Third Place qualifiers were Anna Novosadova in 300m Hurdles, Rosemary Brinegar in Pole Vault, and the 4x100m Relay team of Andres, Nwaiwu, Kate Rohrbough and Ukoha. Although not qualifying to advance to the Area meet, Grace Barden  added to the team score with a Fifth Place finish in the 400m and a Sixth place finish in the 800m.

The Cowboys Varsity team came up with a Third Place finish for the team, and 13 Area qualifiers. Chibuzor Osuji was District Champion in 110m Hurdles, as was Marcus Mitchell in Triple Jump. Taking home Silver Medals were Carson Vickroy in 3200m Run, Charles West in 100m Dash, Clifton Fadal in Long Jump, and the 4x100m Relay team of Eric Stevenson, Gavin McDaniel, West and Cameron Smith. Bronze Medals went to Troy Parker in 110m Hurdles, Osuji in High Jump, West in Long Jump, and Colin Echols in Discus. Fourth Place Area qualifiers were Parker in 300m Hurdles, the 4x200m Relay team of Mark Teffeteller, Stevenson, McDaniel and Murray, as well as the 4x400m Relay team of Darian Lowe, Parker, Teffeteller and Stevenson.  Adding team points but not qualifying for the Area meet, Esere Nesiama and Chad Williams placed Fifth and Sixth, respectively, in Pole Vault. 

In District 5-5A Junior Varsity action, the Coppell Cowgirls took Fourth Place, thanks to 1st-6th Place finishes from: Nicole Francis, Meg Howard, AnnMarie Vincenzo, Chinma Omogah, Kaleigh Keyes. Christine LaPuma, Kennedy Burch, Alyssa Cervantes, Sarah Slover, Robyn Okereke, Kylie Pickrell, Rachel Watley, Marissa Hackl, KathrynAnn Fadal, Alexia Garvin and Kaeli Stayer.

The Cowboys JV also brought home a Fourth Place finish from the District meet, with team points from: Lynn Conkelton, Bo Anderson, Connor Oh, Taylor Wilhelm. Austin Moore, James McRae, Elliot Tostrud, Alex Abalos, Bryce Vonsurmuhlen, Brock Ethridge, Adam Centers, Connor Williams, Trevor Onstott and Josh Fink.

Come on out to the CHS Track on Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19, as Coppell hosts the 5A meet for Area 2 and Area 3. The top 4 athletes from each Area will qualify to advance to the Region 1 meet in Lubbock, Texas. Visit the Coppell Track website for a complete schedule of events.
