The Coppell High School A Cappella Choir, under the direction of Joshua Brown and Casey Carruth, has been selected to perform at the 2016 Southwest American Choral Director’s Association (SWACDA) Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The group was one of seven high school choirs selected from across the Southwest United States and one of only four high school groups from Texas. There were over 110 groups who were considered for this honor. Directors were required to submit recordings from the past three years of performances to demonstrate the group’s ability. “It is a tremendous honor to be selected to perform at this convention,” said Brown. “This is the choir equivalent of being in the playoffs for a national championship.” The CHS Madrigals performed at this convention in 2006.

The A Cappella Choir will perform a twenty-five minute program for choral directors from across the country on March 10, 2016 at 11:30 in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts Helzberg Hall, which is the home of the Kansas City Symphony. They also will present two pre-convention performances.  One on February 25 at 8:00 PM at the Church of the Holy Communion in Dallas and another on March 6 at 7:00 PM at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church along with the University of Texas at Arlington A Cappella Choir who have also been selected to perform at SWACDA.
