Player of the game, Bennett Hunter

The 6A State Champion Coppell Cowboys (18-2-2) began the defense of their title with a comfortable win over Lakeview Centennial on Friday night.  Coppell’s class and athleticism showed from the opening minutes and Lakeview had to work hard all night to keep the game at all close.  Francisco Redondo was on hand to open the scoring at five minutes into the game, finishing off a chance created by good work from Nick Taylor.

Unexpectedly and contrary to the momentum of play, Lakeview stole an equalizer with a powerful header off their only corner kick of the first half.  Nick Taylor quickly restored the Cowboy’s lead with a goal halfway through the first half.

Second half goals from Mo Saif and Bennett Hunter completed the scoring as the Cowboys finished with a comfortable 4-1 victory.

For his creative play in the midfield and his powerful goal, play of the game was awarded to Bennett Hunter.

Next up for the Cowboys is a tough game against #9 ranked The Woodlands on Friday evening.

The 6A State Champion Coppell Cowboys (13-2-1) traveled to Berkner on Friday night for a matchup of district rivals.  Coppell turned in a very polished performance as they dominated Berkner from the opening moments of the game and came away with a well-deserved 5-0 win.

In the second minute of the game, a long cross by George Ackling found Nick Taylor unmarked in the penalty area.  Taylor made no mistake and his header flew past the keeper to open the scoring.  Two minutes later Wyatt Priest doubled the lead and Coppell was rarely troubled from that point on.  Taylor and Priest each added goals before halftime.  Early in the second half, Taylor scored again to complete his hat trick.

Jordan Pemberton was named player of the game for a very efficient defensive performance.

Coppell heads into the final week of the regular season with an away game against Skyline on Tuesday night and a home game against Richardson on Friday night.  Additionally, senior players will be recognized before the start of Friday night’s game.

Mo Saif scores twice for Coppell.

The 6A State Champion Coppell Cowboys (11-2-1) hosted the Lake Highlands Wildcats on Friday night at Buddy Echols Field.   The game started slowly for the Cowboys as they fell behind when Lake Highlands scored an early goal.  But Coppell maintained their composure by quickly regrouping and ultimately putting together one of their best performances of the season.

Nick Taylor responded quickly to Lake Highland’s brief lead by scoring the first goal for Coppell.  Before half time commenced, Jacob Thurman added to more goals for Coppell sending the Cowboys into the break leading 3-1.

Coppell completely dominated the game in the second half with Mo Saif adding two goals, Jordan Pemberton adding a single goal, and Alex Haas adding two goals.  The final score was Coppell 8 Lake Highlands 1.

Coppell has won 8 of their last 9 games and appear to be rounding into form as the playoffs approach.

This week the Cowboys have two more difficult district games on their schedule.  On Tuesday night the Cowboys host WT White and on Friday night the Cowboys travel to Berkner.  Both games kick-off at 7:30PM.

Wyatt Priest leads Coppell to a win with 2 goals.

On Tuesday night, Pearce High School gave the state champion Coppell Cowboys soccer team a tougher than expected challenge.  However, the Cowboys demonstrated that when needed, they know how to dig in and fight to earn a win against a tough opponent.

Wyatt Priest opened the scoring for Coppell early in the game.  And shortly after his first goal, Priest again was on hand to double the Coppell’s lead to 2-0.  Despite the deficit, Pearce continued to battle throughout the first half.

For most of the second half the game was hard fought, but an even contest. Pearce did get the ball in the net only to have the goal disallowed for being offside.  Just as it appeared that Coppell would be able to play out the game without their opponent scoring, Pearce earned its first goal with 5 minutes remaining.  With Coppell ahead by only one goal, Pearce mounted an exciting end-of-game challenge.  An outstanding save from central defender Jordan Pemberton who ran 25 yards at full speed to clear the ball off the line secured the win for Coppell.

With this win Coppell improved their record to 10-2-1.

On Tuesday Night the state champion Coppell Cowboys soccer team traveled to Richardson for what had the potential to become a trap game.  To its credit Coppell maintained their focus and dominated the district showdown game from the start.

Wyatt Priest opened the scoring for Coppell in the third minute of the game and Nick Taylor doubled the lead midway through the first half.  Second half goals from Nick Taylor, Wyatt Priest and two from Jacob Thurman rounded out the scoring for Coppell.  The lone goal for Richardson came from a second half penalty kick.  The final score was a comfortable 6-1.

With this win Coppell extended their winning streak to 6 games. Jacob Thurman had his best ever game for the Cowboys and was named player of the game for his outstanding play and two well taken goals.

Player of the Game Nick Taylor scores his second goal of the game.

On Friday night the 6A state champion Coppell Cowboys (8-1-1) hosted Skyline in a 6A Regional showdown.  Skyline has earned a reputation of being a difficult team to beat.  This season they have challenged all their opponents with close games.  However, the expected difficult test never materialized as early goals by Nick Taylor, Wyatt Priest, and Moe Saif gave Coppell a commanding 3-0 lead over Skyline.  With an outstanding strike from the edge of the penalty area, Nick Taylor added a fourth goal before half time.

Shortly after half-time, Skyline managed to pull a goal back from Coppell.  Later in the game, a goal by Jacob Vasquez restored the four goal difference and Coppell comfortably played out the rest of the game.  The final score was 5-1.

For his two goals and his always threatening behavior when in possession of the ball, Nick Taylor was named player of the game.

This week Coppell have two difficult games, a road game at Richardson on Tuesday and a top of the table clash against Jesuit on Friday.  Both games kick off at 7:30PM.

Player of the Game Bennett Hunter scores two goals.

On Tuesday night the 6A state champion Coppell Cowboys Varsity soccer team beat Berkner, four goals to none, and moved into first place in the district standings.

Four minutes into the game Nick Taylor gave Coppell the lead after a powerful run and strike from 20 yards.  Two minutes later, Bennett Hunter scored to double Coppell’s lead.  From that point forward Coppell dominated the game.  Shortly before the half time break, Coppell further extended their lead when Bennett Hunter scored his second goal of the game.

Early in the second half Bishesh Manandhar scored the goal of the night. His electrifying volley from outside the penalty box rocketed into the top of the net giving the keeper no chance to stop it.   Coppell continued to dominate the game, but was unable to add to their lead.

For his two goals and intelligent play at midfield, Bennett Hunter was named Player of the Game.

Nick Taylor's strong performance earns him Player of Game.

In a hard fought district game the Coppell Boys Varsity Soccer Team (6-1-1) worked tirelessly to overcome a spirited WT White team.  Although Coppell enjoyed much of the possession, they struggled to find a way past a well-organized WT White defense.

In the first half, Coppell consistently looked the more dangerous of the two teams.  But Coppell was unable to turn their pressure into any telling chances and went into the break 0-0.

Early in the second half, Coppell’s pressure finally paid off when Jacob Capdevila was on hand to finish a chance created by a Nick Taylor run and cross.  The Cowboys continued to have the better of the game through most of the second half, but they were unable to turn their pressure and possession into goals.   As time wore on WT White stepped up their game and started to create their own chances.  With five minutes left to play, WT White broke through the Coppell defense and stole a late goal that leveled the game.

Coppell was not finished though; a long throw-in from Jordan Pemberton caused havoc in the WT White penalty area forcing a hand ball by a defender which resulted in a Coppell penalty kick.  Alex Haas made no mistake on the PK and Coppell escaped a difficult road test with a win.

For his consistently strong performance in the forward position, Nick Taylor was awarded Player of the Game.

An impressive showing at midfield earns Parker McClure Player of Game.

The Coppell Boys Varsity Soccer Team (5-1-1) traveled to Lake Highlands earlier this week for a showdown of two of the top teams in Region 2, District 9.   However, the expected tight game never materialized as Coppell was rarely troubled.  And, although the game finished 3-0, the final score did not reflect the total dominance of the Cowboys.
Parker McClure opened the scoring in the third minute of the game with a powerful header off of an Alex Haas free kick.  Shortly after Nick Taylor doubled the lead.  Coppell dominated the game from that point forward, but had to wait until late in the second half to add to their lead when Jacob Capdevilla made no mistake from just outside of the 6-yard box.
Parker McClure was named player of the game for his well taken goal and his impressive display at midfield.

Francisco Redondo (#16) earns Player of the Game with 2 goals.

The Coppell Boys Varsity Team (4-1-1) fought past a well-organized and strong Pearce team on Friday night in district play.  Pearce shocked the state champion Coppell Cowboys taking the lead with an early breakaway goal.  Shortly after, Jeremy Basso tied the game scoring off a corner kick.  Pearce continued to test Coppell throughout the first-half but Coppell slowly started to assert themselves on the field.

Soon after the start of the second-half the Coppell pressure finally broke through the stubborn Pearce defense; a shot from Wyatt Priest beat the goal-keeper, but crashed back off the post into the path of Francisco Redondo who soundly found the back of the net and put Coppell ahead.  Coppell doubled their lead midway through the second-half when Francisco Redondo got his second goal of the game after a powerful run and cross from Nick Taylor.

Coppell continued to dominate the rest of the game but was unable to add to their lead.  However, the Cowboys were pleased to get past the talented Pearce team who started the game in first place in the district.

For his two goals and all round strong game Francisco Redondo was named player of the game.

Coppell’s next challenge is an away game against White on Friday, February 3rd at 7:30PM.
