"It's very hard for me to step away from this job that I've love so much.  Being a major contributor to the community by working with the 500 businesses that our Coppell Chamber Members, the City of Coppell, CISD and North Lake College has been a dream job for me because I absolutely love this community!  My health has suffered a bit due to the strong work ethic I bring to my job as an all-in, all- the-time servant leader.  It's important for me to now think about my health, my family and our own business.  It's going to be so fun to focus on continuing the growth of our own successful business.", Said Kristi Valentine.

The Coppell Chamber will be posting for the position of President and CEO, as well as for an Events and Sponsorship Manager.  Christine Douglass, the current Events and Sponsorship Manager, announced this week that she will also be leaving the Chamber early in 2017.  She has been employed by the Chamber for 2 years and has been a key component to the success of all of the Chamber's success during her tenure.

Under the leadership of Kristi Valentine, the Chamber has more than doubled the membership, has rolled out several new programs and events engaging the membership and community, has held a highly successful Building Campaign to assist in the purchase of the Chamber's own business cottage in Old Town Coppell, and much more.

Anyone interested in applying for the position of President & CEO of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce should look for a posting of that job on the Chamber's website for details and application instructions, www.coppellchamber.org. The deadline for application is Dec 2nd.

Statement on Overtime Rule Injunction

SHERMAN, TX— Today federal judge Amos Mazzant issued a preliminary injunction to block a White House effort to make millions more workers eligible for overtime pay.  The overtime rule, promulgated by the Department of Labor, represented an unprecedented doubling of the minimum salary threshold for executive, administrative or professional employees exempt from the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.   “We are pleased with the decision to issue an injunction, halting the implementation of the Department of Labor’s proposed overtime rule, The overtime rule as proposed would have placed undue pressure, unnecessarily burdened employers and had a negative impact on many employees.

Along with businesses the new rule would have had a harsh impact on not-for-profits and associations including chambers of commerce.  Kristi Valentine, President & CEO of the Coppell Chamber of Commerce said, “This rule would have had significant impacts on our members and the chamber staff.  Further, the rule would have effectively eliminated the ability of many people to volunteer stretching organizational resources and squelching the spirit of volunteerism that makes our communities great.  That is why the Coppell Chamber felt it was imperative to be a part of the business coalition that included the Texas Association of Business, U.S. Chamber and others to support blocking the rule.”

The injunction provides immediate relief from potential negative impacts for employers.  It also represents a new starting place to evaluate the issue with a more measured approach.  “We are appreciative for Judge Mazzant making what we feel is an excellent decision,” said Kristi

Valentine, “and we look forward to continuing to create the best business climate and work environment possible for all.”
