Would you like to have your kids participate in curriculum intensive activity that will result in a course specific certification? The Brain Club, a Coppell-based education company, is introducing 6-month certification courses for children ages 8-13 years in Digital Art (Classical to Modern Art), Story Master (Language Arts) and LEGO Simple & Motorized Machines (Engineering)

Here are brief descriptions of each course:

 

Digital Art Creator: (Ages 8-11 years)

In this interactive course and use of iPad technology, kids will explore art form from ancient period (French cave paintings), Egyptian era (Bust of Nefertiti), Renaissance (Leonardo De Vinci), Impressionism (Monet), Post Impressionism ~ Cubism (Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse), to post-modern/digital (art in modern movies and games). Class activities include different exploration of art forms using interactive apps and games. Kids will create a final project that will be shared with class for discussion and appreciation.

During the 6-month certification course students will learn:

  • Study, interact and draw art forms from six historical periods: ancient, Egyptian, Renaissance, Impressionism, Post Impressionism through Cubism and finally post-modern.
  • Study and subject your project for each of historical periods.
  • Study and discuss final art project submitted by peers.
  • Work on class, group and individual projects.

Simple and Motorized Machines: (Ages 9-13 years)

Designed for older students exploring more complex LEGO® models. Students use Simple and Powered Machine LEGO® Education kits provided in the class to build advance models that teach them vital engineering concepts. Students discover firsthand advanced mechanical concepts, pneumatics and renewal energy by building and exploring. Students will build mechanical and motorized models learning important scientific concepts like calibrating, capturing wind energy and studying gearing mechanism.

Students will use iPads (provided in class) as research tool and build advance models using LEGO® Education kits. In addition, skills learned include interpreting building instructions, learning about levers, gears, pulleys and understanding mechanism via building models.

During the 6-month certification course students will learn:

  • Build and experiment with 20 core LEGO® Education recommended models and activities.
  • Develop ideas for developing 5 original models that solve STEM-based problems.
  • Develop a solid understanding of mechanical and engineering principles and used.
  • Work on class, group and individual projects.

Story Master: (Ages 8-11 years)

Excellent activity based course to enhance language arts for elementary level children. This course uses a combination of elements to augment children's ability in reading, writing, story-telling and creativity. In addition to a variety of tools and resources, we use LEGO® Education Story Starter kit. The LEGO® Education kit together with software and iPad apps allows our students to create and publish original stories. Kids have lots of fun while learning vital language skills.

During the 6-month certification course students will learn:

  • Develop core skills in developing and writing stories.
  • Develop a solid foundation in reading and writing.
  • Story reading and writing drills and exercises.
  • Assessments on current reading levels and book recommendations for study throughout the course.
  • Study and discuss final story writing project submitted by peers.
  • Work on class, group and individual projects.

To receive The Brain Club certification in each concentration, following minimum conditions have to be met:

  • Student is registered in all 6-month/24 classes course.
  • Students attends at least 10 classes.
  • Student scores at least 70% in all quiz and test during the course.

Summer Mania Pic Collage

The Brain Club offers educational summer camps in Coppell and Colleyville

Are your kids into LEGO, art, movies, reading/writing stories? Then Summer Mania 2014 offered by The Brain Club might be of interest. Summer Mania 2014 is a fun filled, education oriented summer camp for boys and girls ages 8-13 years.  

Kids will enjoy 5-days (20hrs) of educational activities where they’ll learn new things while having a blast! Various subjects are offered as a medley of fun filled activities during the 5-day camp.

These include LEGO® Robotics (building and programming robots), Story Master (language arts via building LEGO® models, popular movie characters and additional reading/writing activities), Digital Art (learn about classic art like Van Gogh, Picasso and Matisse to modern art for Angry Birds, Despicable Me and Toy Story movie characters and create original digital art), LEGO® Motorized Machines (building exciting motorized models using scientific and engineering concepts), Game Quizzes (puzzles/mind benders, general knowledge and science quizzes).

Each camp participant will also receive a free t-shirt, free daily snacks and prizes for superior participation throughout camp activities.

Students will have the oppurtunity to learn computer programming principles using intuitive iPad apps. Instead of learning code, students will learn to use logic and problem-solving skills by using method/command blocks to complete programming projects. (iPads and apps will be provided in class.)

The classes will be held weekly for one month.
