A suicide awareness and prevention program, “Solutions Not Suicide,” has been planned through a partnership between Coppell ISD and the Suicide & Crisis Center of North Texas. This community-wide event is based on the 33-minute video, “A Reason to Live,” http://www.mediaprojects.org/films/mental-health /a-reason-to-live/ and is free to the public. Please join us Thursday, May 9, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the GracePoint Church/590 S. Denton Tap Rd. for this informative program.

This Friday, May 3rd, the entire district will participate in Project ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. (Please note: Due to conflicts, the exact date and times may vary by campus. Please be sure to check with your child's school for the exact date and time). The event, organized by the Coppell ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC), emphasizes the importance of exercise to be healthy in both body and mind, and is part of a global exercise initiative that began in 1989.

Register Now to run on Coppell streets! On Saturday, May 11th at 8 a.m., join us at Coppell High School for the Coppell Education Foundation’s Run to Fund 10K, 5K and Fun Run. All races finish at the CHS Football Field. Funds raised by the foundation award teacher grants and resources for CISD schools. In addition, every school’s PE Fund will earn $1 per student who signs up to run....

CISD trustees Thom Hulme and Anthony Hill recently attended the TASA/TASB Legislative Conference. They are pictured with State Representative and Chair of the House Public Education Committee, Jimmy Don Aycock. Aycock is the author of House Bill 5 which includes the reduction of End-of-Course exams from 15 to 5, removes the 15% rule and several other provisions.

Earth Day, April 22, is the ground-breaking ceremony for the environmental education center at Coppell Nature Park. Attending the ceremony will be Ms. Tara Ferguson, a junior at Stephen F. Austin University; she was a CISD elementary school student and member of the student committee that first proposed this facility years ago.

Shattered Dreams, held on March 28th, is a project headed by CHS and NTH@C staff and students and supported by the Assistance League of Coppell, as well as the Coppell Police and Fire Departments. The program is conducted every two years and is targeted to eleventh and twelfth graders at CHS and New Tech High.

The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) today announced the launch of TASA on iTunes U to help transform Texas teaching and learning by providing course content for classroom teachers in the four core subject areas of mathematics, science, social studies and English language arts.
