Coppell XC Posts Strong Times in Final Meet Before District

Coppell Cross Country returned to Pike Middle School on Saturday, Oct. 3, to compete in the Byron Nelson Last Minute Meet after rain altered the teams original plans to race at the Jesuit XC Classic.

While many of Coppells runners did not compete, about half of the team took advantage of one final opportunity to race a 5K before the District 7-6A Championship.

Cooler temperatures and rain made for favorable racing conditions, and Coppell finished the meet with 17 season-best or personal-record times.

Varsity Boys

Diego Morales continued his strong return to racing, finishing ninth in the Varsity Boys race with a time of 16:24.

His performance was about 20 seconds faster than the 16:44 he ran on the same course the previous week.

Isaiah Assefa also turned in a strong performance, running 16:41 to finish 14th.

Easterwood Wins Varsity Girls Race

Maya Easterwood led the way for Coppell in the Varsity Girls race, winning in 18:01.

Easterwood finished 25 seconds ahead of the second-place runner in just her second race of the season. After returning to competition last week, she once again looked strong and comfortable on the course.

JV Boys Finish Fourth

The Coppell JV Boys finished fourth as a team.

Baron Schott led the Cowboys with a ninth-place finish, followed closely by Austin Shelby in 10th. Oscar Martin, Alexander Marks and Calvin Wolf rounded out Coppells top five runners.

JV Girls Compete Well

Akshara Darisipudi was the top finisher for the Coppell JV Girls as the Cowgirls competed against a strong field.

For many of Coppells runners, Saturday provided one final chance to race, gain experience and build confidence before championship season begins.

Looking Ahead to District

Coppell now turns its attention to the District 7-6A Championship on Monday, Oct. 12, at Myers Park in McKinney.

After months of training and another week that produced numerous personal and season-best performances, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will spend the coming week preparing for their biggest meet of the season.

The Cowboys and Cowgirls will use the coming week to prepare for District and their return to Myers Park.

Coppell High School Engineering Opens New Space to Students and Community

Coppell High Schools Engineering Booster Club welcomed students, parents and community members on Sept. 26 for an afternoon gathering in the schools newly opened engineering space.

For many parents, it was their first opportunity to see the new facility and learn more about what Coppells engineering students are doing throughout the year.

The reaction from families was especially exciting. Many parents said they had not realized Coppell High School had such an impressive space dedicated to engineering. Several commented on the quality of the classrooms and equipment, with some even comparing the facility to what they might expect to see at a private school.

The new space gives Coppells engineering students more room to design, build, collaborate and prepare for competitions. With students participating in programs such as Technology Student Association (TSA) and Robotics, having adequate space is an important part of giving them opportunities to put what they learn in the classroom into practice.

The Engineering Booster Club appreciates Coppell ISDs investment in providing a space where these programs can continue to grow.

Bringing Parents, Teachers and Students Together

The Sept. 26 event was also an opportunity for families to meet the teachers and learn more about the engineering program.

Mr. Garner, Mr. Brown and Mr. Price spent the afternoon visiting with parents and giving tours of the new space. Families were able to see where students work on projects, prepare for competitions and turn their ideas into something they can actually build and test.

Students were an important part of the afternoon as well. TSA student leaders shared their own experiences with parents and younger students, including freshmen who are just beginning to discover the opportunities available through Coppell Engineering.

Having students talk about their experiences gave families a chance to hear directly from those who participate in the program and learn more about what TSA, Robotics and other engineering activities can offer.

Most importantly, the afternoon brought together students, teachers, parents and community members who share an interest in supporting Coppells engineering programs.

Supporting Coppell Engineering

The Engineering Booster Club works alongside teachers and families to support Coppell High Schools Engineering, TSA and Robotics programs.

This year, the Booster Club hopes to raise $6,000$8,000 to help provide additional resources and opportunities for students. Support from parents, local businesses, sponsors and the Coppell community play an important role in helping the club reach that goal.

The Booster Club is grateful to everyone who attended the event and to the parents, volunteers and sponsors who continue to support Coppell Engineering.

We are excited to see the new engineering space filled with students and look forward to seeing what they will design, build and accomplish this year.

Coppell XC Turns in Strong Performances at Two Saturday Meets

Coppell Cross Country split up for two meets Saturday, with the teams top 16 runners traveling to College Station for the Nike South Invitational while the rest of the Cowboys and Cowgirls competed at the Byron Nelson Invitational.

Across both meets, Coach Wren saw plenty to be encouraged about as the team moves closer to the District Meet.

Overall, I believe this was the best week we've had as a program, Coach Wren said. I am extremely pleased with the results.

Individual and Team Highlights

Nike South Varsity Elite Boys, 8th Place

The Varsity Elite Boys finished eighth at Nike South, with Sidharth Sid Kerthipati leading Coppell with a 15th-place finish in 15:34.

The course measured a little longer than a standard 5K at approximately 3.2 miles, but the Cowboys handled it well. Tanish Neelapu, Itsuki Pena, Alesh Khowala, Abishek Suresh, Isaiah Assefa and Sam Meier all finished within 30 seconds of one another.

We talked this week of running together more as a team, and we were able to execute that plan on the Nike course, Coach Wren said.

Nike South Varsity Elite Girls, 14th Place

Maya Easterwood returned to competition for her first 5K of the season and finished seventh in 18:05.

Bishakha Sinha, Mirabelle Sagel, Rachel Stumm, Anusha Patki and Angie Nguyen also worked closely together, with all five finishing within 15 seconds of one another.

It was great to see her back on the course competing again, Coach Wren said of Easterwood. I absolutely loved seeing them work together as a team. The competition that is taking place on our girls' team is really pushing each girl to run well on race day.

Nike South Varsity Boys, 13th Place

Cannon Stehly led Coppells Varsity Boys with a 40th-place finish in 17:19. Ahan Kothalkar and Rigved Nehere followed closely, both finishing in 17:31. Marco Noyola and Vihaan Sharma rounded out Coppells top five.

I enjoyed watching these young men attack the course and run intelligently, Coach Wren said.

Nike South Varsity Girls, 18th Place

Shrriya Bedse led the Varsity Girls, finishing 78th in 22:13. Adeline Mendola ran a personal best, while Hannah Stumm and Anandi Dhulipalla finished as Coppells third and fourth runners. The three finished within four seconds of one another.

I really love the improvement I'm seeing from this group, Coach Wren said.

Byron Nelson Invitational

Varsity Elite Boys

Diego Morales returned from injury and competed in his first 5K of the season, finishing 29th in 16:44.

He ran a good time, but most importantly, he was able to complete his first 5K, Coach Wren said. It'll be nice to get Diego back in the mix with the other guys.

Varsity Open Girls 10th Place

Vanini Agarwal led the Varsity Open Girls with a 10th-place finish in 21:17, recording a season-best time. Avery Arthur finished 54th in 23:12.

Varsity Open Boys 7th Place

Sandre Houdier led the Varsity Open Boys with a 31st-place finish in 18:32. Vihaan Sapkota, Austin Shelby, Baron Schott and Vihaan Chodisetti rounded out Coppells top five.

They did a great job of representing us today, Coach Wren said. I love seeing their growth.

JV Girls

Amy Achim led Coppells JV Girls, finishing 61st in 24:54.

JV Boys 7th Place

Alexander Marks and Noah Law led a strong showing by the JV Boys, finishing 12th and 19th, respectively. Calvin Wolf, Jesiah Resnowski and John Udovich also ran well.

These kids continue to show up, put in the work, and it's beginning to show, Coach Wren said.

Looking Ahead

Coppell will compete at the Jesuit XC Classic next week, the teams final meet before District.

I look forward to seeing the kids improve a little more this week heading into championship season, Coach Wren said.

With one regular-season meet remaining, the Cowboys and Cowgirls will look to build on what Coach Wren described as their best week of the season as they prepare for the championship portion of their schedule.

Coppell XC Shows Progress During a Busy Week of Racing

It was a busy week for Coppell Cross Country, with the Cowboys and Cowgirls competing at two different meets. A group of 28 runners headed to North Lakes Park in Denton Thursday for the Ray Braswell Invitational, while Coppells Varsity teams traveled to Round Rock Saturday for the HOKA/McNeil Invitational.

The two meets offered different opportunities for the team. At Braswell, runners returned to a familiar course and were able to see how much they had improved in just two weeks. At McNeil, Coppells Varsity runners gained valuable experience competing on the state course and traveling the day before a race.

Ray Braswell Invitational

Coppell returned to the same North Lakes Park course the team raced at during the Marcus Invitational two weeks earlier, making Thursdays results a good measure of progress.

Almost every Coppell runner improved from their previous time on the course, and 16 of the 28 athletes recorded personal-best times.

We took a handful of athletes to the Ray Braswell Invitational on Thursday, Coach Wren said. Almost every runner improved their time from their previous time on the same course. Out of the 28 kids that competed, 16 of them ran their personal best times.

Varsity Boys 9th Place Overall

Colten Karstendiek led Coppell with a 68th-place finish in 17:44, more than 40 seconds faster than his previous best on the course. Baron Schott and Jake Terry also ran well, helping the Cowboys finish 9th out of 25 teams.

JV Girls 20th Place Overall

Sehbin Lee and Prajakta Mandal led the JV Girls.

HOKA/McNeil Invitational

Saturday brought a different experience as Coppells Varsity runners competed at the HOKA/McNeil Invitational in Round Rock. Racing on the state course gave the athletes a chance to learn the course while also experiencing what it is like to travel and race the following day.

We enjoyed having the opportunity to run on the state course, Coach Wren said. The course was in great shape. It's important for our kids to not only learn as much as they can about the course, but to experience what it is like to travel and have to race the next day.

Coach Wren said that experience could also help prepare the team for the regional meet in Lubbock.

Varsity Girls GOLD 23rd Place Overall

The Varsity Girls GOLD finished 23rd in a talented field. Finleigh Sanders, Mirabelle Sagel, Angie Nguyen and Rachel Stumm led the Cowgirls, with all four racing the course for the first time.

Mirabelle and Angie both recorded personal bests, while Finleigh ran her best race of the season.

We continue to move in the right direction, Coach Wren said.

Varsity Boys GOLD 26th Place Overall

The Varsity Boys GOLD finished 26th, with Tanish Neelapu and Itsuki Pena leading the team after Sid Kerthipati was unable to finish the race.

We didn't run as well as we were hoping but feel like we gained valuable experience, Coach Wren said. I'm confident that the boys will rebound next week and run well at Nike South.

Varsity Girls SILVER 23rd Place Overall

The Varsity Girls SILVER finished 23rd and were led by Sabrina Wright. Adeline Mendola and Mackenzie Flournoy both ran their best races of the year.

I'm proud of the effort all of these girls showed, Coach Wren said.

Varsity Boys SILVER 22nd Place Overall

The Varsity Boys SILVER finished 22nd, with Isaiah Assefa placing 64th out of 226 runners. Vihaan Sharma also performed well.

With a few Varsity spots still available, Coach Wren said the competition within the boys team continues.

There are a couple of Varsity spots still up for grabs and it's good that the boys are battling it out, Coach Wren said. Next week is a huge week to help determine who is going to grab those final spots.

Looking Ahead

Coppell will be back on the road next week, traveling to College Station for the Nike South Invitational.

I expect for the kids to have a good week of work and run really well next weekend, Coach Wren said.

With personal bests in Denton and valuable experience on the state course in Round Rock, Coppell wrapped up a busy week with plenty to build on as the season continues.

Coppell XC Takes on District Course at McKinney Boyd XC Stampede

The Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls traveled to Myers Park Saturday for the McKinney Boyd XC Stampede, giving the team an important opportunity to race on the same course they will return to for the District Meet in October.

It was a beautiful morning for cross country, but once the races got underway, the runners said the conditions still felt quite hot. The course also had its challenges, with dry, uneven ground and rocky hills along the way.

More important than the results alone, Saturday gave Coppell a chance to learn the course firsthand and begin thinking about how to approach it when they return in October.

Our team got the opportunity to run on the same course as they will be running on at District, Coach Wren said. Our goal was to learn as much as we could about the course and gain experience by running it so that we are better prepared for the race in October.

Individual and Team Highlights

Varsity Elite Boys 5th Place Overall

The Varsity Elite Boys finished 5th out of 22 teams despite competing without several of Coppells top runners.

Sidharth Kerthipati led the Cowboys with a 10th-place finish in 16:01. Alesh Khowala, Itsuki Pena and Abishek Suresh also finished among Coppells top performers.

We were missing a few of our top runners this week, but I feel like many of our other runners filled in admirably, Coach Wren said. I love the fact that we have so many younger runners that are gaining valuable experience in varsity races every week. It is going to pay dividends for us later on.

Varsity Elite Girls 8th Place Overall

The Varsity Elite Girls were also shorthanded this week, competing without three of their top runners. The Cowgirls rose to the occasion and finished 8th out of 17 teams while gaining valuable experience on the District course.

Finleigh Sanders led Coppell with a 37th-place finish in 20:38. Mirabelle Sagel, Charlotte Baade, Angie Nguyen, Avery Arthur and Rachel Stumm all finished within just 24 seconds of one another, while Sabrina Wright rounded out Coppells top seven.

Our Varsity Elite Girls were a little shorthanded this week missing three of our top runners, but the girls that ran rose to the occasion, Coach Wren said. We attacked the course well and learned a lot about how we can perform even better at District.

This group is super youthful, and we benefit from every race that we are able to run, he added. I'm anxious to see them continue to grow as a team.

Varsity Open Boys and Girls

The Varsity Open Boys finished 8th, with several Coppell runners placing well in a field of 246 runners.

The Varsity Open Girls finished 14th. Shrriya Bedse was Coppells top girl finisher in the division, placing 75th out of 146 runners.

JV Boys and Girls

The JV Boys finished 11th, while the JV Girls finished 13th.

In a large field of 377 runners, Vihaan Chodisetti led Coppells JV Boys with a 16th-place finish.

On the girls side, Mackenzie Flournoy finished 29th out of 266 runners.

Looking Ahead

Next week will take Coppell Cross Country in two different directions.

Many of the JV runners will compete Thursday at the Ray Braswell Invitational at North Lakes Park in Denton, while the Varsity runners will travel to Round Rock for the HOKA/McNeil Invitational, where they will have an opportunity to race on the state course.

Coppell XC's Younger Runners Gain Experience at DUBEast Invitational

The Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls traveled to Wylie Friday morning for the DUBEast XC Invitational at Founders Park. This week's meet gave many of Coppell's younger and less experienced runners an opportunity to compete and continue building race experience early in the season.

After racing two miles under the lights at the Friday Night Hawk Invite the previous week, the team was back to Friday morning racing and a different course at Founders Park. With many of Coppell's more experienced runners sitting this one out, the focus was on giving the younger athletes an opportunity to compete.

We took many of our younger and more inexperienced runners to the DUBEast XC Invitational on Friday morning, Coach Wren said. I was extremely pleased with the effort that I saw from our athletes.

Individual and Team Highlights

Elite Varsity Boys 10th Place Overall

Coppell entered only five runners in the Elite Varsity Boys race, giving them the opportunity to compete against a much more experienced field. The Cowboys finished 10th overall, with 179 runners competing in the race.

We only ran 5 boys in the Elite Varsity race, and they competed hard against much more experienced competition, Coach Wren said.

Open Boys 10th Place Overall

The Open Boys also finished 10th overall in a large field of 304 runners.

Open Girls 4th Place Overall

The Open Girls recorded Coppell's highest team finish of the morning, placing 4th out of 22 teams.

Angie Nguyen led Coppell with an impressive 7th-place finish among 228 runners. Vanini Agarwal also finished in the Top 15.

We have a lot of younger female runners that are gaining experience every time they run, Coach Wren said.

JV Boys 10th Place Overall

The JV Boys were the final Coppell group to race and, like the other two boys' teams, finished 10th overall. Their race was held on a two-mile course.

They ran the two-mile course and worked hard and executed their race plans well, Coach Wren said.

Looking Ahead

Next up for Coppell is the Coach T - Marcus Invitational on Saturday, September 5. The meet will bring together a strong field and give the Cowboys and Cowgirls an opportunity to see how they match up against some of the area's top teams.

We look forward to running at the Coach T - Marcus Invitational on Saturday, 9/5, Coach Wren said. This will be stacked with a lot of great teams, so it'll be a good test to see where we are as a team. We can't wait to run against some of the top talent in the area.

With another meet behind them, Coppell's younger runners leave Wylie with more race experience as the team prepares for a much different test next weekend.

Coppell XC Takes on a Friday Night Race Under the Lights

It was a fun change of pace for the Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls as they traded an early morning 5K for a two-mile race under the lights at McInnish Park. The Friday Night Hawk Invite is one of the kids favorite meets of the year. Its close to home, the atmosphere is different, and getting the chance to race at night makes the meet a little more special.

Even with the shorter distance, the race came with its own challenges. With little breeze, warm conditions and uneven ground to navigate in the darkness, the runners still had to stay focused and race hard from start to finish.

Coppell competed across six divisions, with several strong team and individual finishes throughout the night. The Elite Varsity Boys came especially close to taking home the team title, finishing 2nd out of 10 teams, while the JV Boys earned 3rd place in a large field of 29 teams. On the girls side, many of Coppells younger runners continued to gain valuable racing experience.

This is one of the kids' favorite meets of the year, Coach Wren said. It's close to home and getting to run at night is a really cool experience.

Elite Varsity Boys 2nd Place Overall

The Elite Varsity Boys came within reach of winning the meet, finishing 2nd overall out of 10 teams. Alesh Khowala and Tanish Neelapu led the way, finishing just one second apart in 5th and 6th place.

With 77 runners in the Elite Varsity Boys race, Coppell placed all five of its top runners in the Top 20.

Coach Wren was happy with the effort, even though the team came just short of the top spot.

I was really pleased with how they ran overall, he said. We just missed out on 1st place. The kids were prepared and competed hard.

Elite Varsity Girls 7th Place Overall

For the Elite Varsity Girls, this part of the season is also about gaining experience. The team is currently made up entirely of freshmen and sophomores, giving the younger runners an opportunity to learn with each race.

The girls finished 7th overall out of 11 teams in a field of 79 runners.

Coach Wren sees each meet as another opportunity for this young group to develop.

We have a lot of youth running on our Elite Varsity Girls team right now with only sophomore and freshmen runners, he said. They continue to compete hard and learn more and more every time they race. They'll continue to grow as the year moves on.

Varsity Boys 13th Place Overall

The Varsity Boys competed in a much larger field, with 213 runners and 27 teams taking part in the race.

Coppell entered a team of only six runners, all upperclassmen, and finished 13th overall.

Abishek Suresh 13th, 10:52

Suresh led the group with a Top 15 individual finish.

It was only a team of 6 made up of upperclassmen, Coach Wren said. I was proud of their effort.

Varsity Girls 12th Place Overall

The Varsity Girls also faced a large field, competing against 179 runners and 24 teams. Like the Varsity Boys, this group was primarily made up of upperclassmen.

The girls finished 12th overall as a team.

This team was primarily made up of upperclassmen as well, Coach Wren said. These girls work extremely hard in practice, and it was fun to see them compete underneath the lights.

JV Boys 3rd Place Overall

One of the strongest team finishes of the night came from the JV Boys. With 366 runners and 29 teams in the race, it was the largest field of the night.

Coppell worked its way to an impressive 3rd-place team finish, with Ahan Kothalkar leading the group in 8th place.

For Coach Wren, the result was encouraging not only because of the team placement, but also because of what he saw from the runners throughout the race.

I loved what I saw from the JV boys last night, he said. Many of them ran really good races that will lead to more confidence in future races. Finishing 3rd out of 29 teams is a good accomplishment.

JV Girls 12th Place Overall

The JV Girls had an especially young group on the course Friday nightthe entire team was made up of freshmen.

They competed in another large field, with 348 runners representing 28 teams, and finished 12th overall.

Coach Wren was encouraged by the progress he continues to see from this freshman group.

This team was made up of all freshmen, he said. This class works extremely hard in practice, and it is beginning to show in the meets. They continue to get better each week.

Looking Ahead

Next week, Coppell heads to Wylie for the DUBEast Invitational on Friday morning. The meet will primarily give the teams younger and less experienced runners another opportunity to race, gain experience and continue building confidence.

We run at the DUBEast Invitational in Wylie next Friday morning, Coach Wren said. This meet will primarily be for our younger and more inexperienced runners. The kids continue to show up every day and do the necessary things to get better. As a coach, it's fun to be a part of such a hardworking, coachable group. I'm excited to see us continue to grow as a team.

With another race in the books, Coppells runners will keep working, learning and getting stronger as the season moves forward.

Coppell Cross-Country Off to a Great Start at Waxahachie!

The Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls kicked off their cross-country season with a strong showing in Waxahachie on Saturday, August 15. It was the first 5K of the season, and despite the hot August weather, the Waxahachie courseknown for producing fast timesgave the runners a good opportunity to see where their summer training had taken them.

Even without the full team competing, Coppell came away with plenty to celebrate. Both the Varsity and JV Boys won their team divisions, while the Varsity Girls finished 3rd and the JV Girls earned a solid 4th-place finish overall.

With several runners needing more training time and others dealing with injuries, some of Coppell's younger athletes had an early opportunity to step up and compete at the varsity level. Coach Wren was pleased with what he saw from the group in their first 5K of the season.

I was excited to see what many of these younger runners did with that opportunity, Coach Wren said. I was pleased with the way that the runners competed in their first 5K of the season. Im looking forward to watching them grow as runners as the year goes on.

Individual and Team Highlights

Varsity Boys 1st Place Overall

The Varsity Boys started their season with a team victory, led by Sidharth Kerthipatis 3rd-place finish.

It was a good opening race for the boys, especially with Coppell not yet competing with its full lineup. The team still found a way to come away with the win while giving several runners valuable early-season racing experience.

Varsity Girls 3rd Place Overall

The Varsity Girls also got their season off to a good start with a 3rd-place team finish. Finleigh Sanders-Burk led the group, followed by Rachel Stumm, Bishakha Sinha and Anusha Patki.

With some younger runners getting an opportunity to compete at the varsity level, this first meet gave the girls a good starting point for the season ahead.

The JV Boys made it two team victories for Coppell. Isaiah Assefa led the way by winning the race, with Rigved Nehere joining him near the front in 3rd place.

Five Coppell runners finished in the Top 15, giving the JV Boys plenty to be happy about after their first race of the year.

JV Girls 4th Place Overall

The JV Girls finished a respectable 4th overall, with two Coppell runners breaking into the Top 10. Hannah Stumm led the group with an 8th-place finish, followed just six seconds later by Shrriya Bedse in 10th.

For the team, Saturday was about more than where everyone finished. With the full lineup not yet back together, the first meet gave Coach Wren and the runners a chance to see where they are and what they can continue working on in the weeks ahead.

Looking Ahead

Next up, Coppell will trade the traditional 5K for something a little different. The Cowboys and Cowgirls will compete at the Friday Night Hawk Invite, hosted by Hebron at McInnish Park. Instead of another 5K, the runners will take on a 2-mile course under the lights of the baseball and softball fields.

We will be shifting gears a little bit and running a 2-mile course at the Friday Night Hawk Invite hosted by Hebron at McInnish Park this week, Coach Wren said. This is a fun meet that is run underneath the lights of baseball and softball fields. I look forward to seeing our athletes compete again on Friday.

One race is in the books, and there is still a lot of season ahead. With two team wins, solid finishes from the girls and younger runners already stepping up when given the opportunity, Coppell has plenty to build on.

Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls Wrap Up District Meet

The Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls competed in the District Meet on Friday at North Lakes Park in Denton, leaving everything on the course against one of the toughest districts in Texas. Both squads ran with determination and heart, and while team qualification proved just out of reach, Coppell runners delivered personal bests and standout performances that capped an impressive season.

Cowgirls Highlights

The Varsity Girls team ran courageously, with five of seven runners posting personal records. Senior leader Maya Easterwood ran one of the finest races of her career, finishing 2nd overall with a PR the fastest 5K time ever recorded by a Coppell athlete. Maya executed her race plan perfectly, said Coach Wren. We were hoping she could challenge for first, but that was still a phenomenal performance. She will advance to the Regional Meet in Lubbock on October 21.

The JV Girls also ended their season on a strong note, with Charlotte Baade leading the way and running the 7th fastest Coppell girls time on the course. Solid efforts from Vanini Agarwal, Shrriya Bedse, Bess Williams, and Hannah Stumm highlighted the depth and improvement across the girls program this season.

Cowboys Highlights

The Varsity Boys ran a competitive race that gave them a chance to qualify, but fell just short against top district opponents. Still, two standout athletes Diego Morales and Sidharth Kerthipati earned individual qualifications to Regionals, each running personal bests.

Coach Wren praised their effort: Both Diego and Sid have continued to improve as the season has gone on. Im excited to keep training them and see how they compete in Lubbock.

The JV Boys squad turned in the best finish of the day, placing multiple runners in the top group and showing the future is bright. Standouts included Rodrigo Abrego, Jose Murillo, Marco Noyola, Srivanth Rudrangi, Vihaan Sahni, Abishek Suresh, Rigved Nehere, and Allan Ramirez. Many recorded personal or near-personal bests, demonstrating the depth Coppell has moving forward.

Coachs Perspective

Coach Wren reflected on the District results:
Sometimes you can do everything youre capable of and still get beat. Thats what happened today for both our boys and girls. But I couldnt be prouder of how they competed. We had so many PRs, and we proved that our athletes are learning how to run tough races.

He also noted the scale of improvement: 19 out of 27 Coppell girls ran season bests, while 24 out of 45 Coppell boys ran season bests at District.

Looking Ahead

Coppell will now turn its attention to the Regional Meet in Lubbock on October 21, where Maya Easterwood, Diego Morales, and Sidharth Kerthipati will represent the Cowboys and Cowgirls. For the rest of the team, the season will officially conclude at the Nike South Invitational in College Station on November 24.

Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls Shine at Haltom Pre-District Meet

The Coppell cross-country teams competed in the Haltom Pre-District Meet on Thursday, October 2, after last weekends Jesuit meet was canceled due to conditions. This make-up meet gave many athletes a chance to showcase their progress, and Coppell made the most of the opportunity. Despite a tough course, the Cowboys and Cowgirls turned in impressive performances, earning team victories and individual medals across multiple divisions.

Cowboys Highlights

Varsity Boys Coppell took 1st place out of 23 teams in a field of 225 runners. Top finishers included Rodrigo Abrego (12th), Vihaan Sharma (28th), Lukas Stumm (29th), Abishek Suresh (30th), and Rigved Nehere (35th). Rodrigo also earned a medal for finishing in the Top 20.
JV Boys The Cowboys finished 3rd out of 19 schools, just one point from 2nd and only eight points shy of the team title. Medalists were Ansh Patel (6th), Aaron Joseph (10th), and Dee Raibourn (13th). Carlos Ramirez (22nd) and Vihaan Chodisetti (24th) narrowly missed medaling but impressed with strong performances.

Cowgirls Highlights

JV Girls Coppell dominated, winning 1st place out of 10 teams and placing five runners in the Top 20. Laurel Storey claimed the individual title, followed by Sophia Sarmiento in 2nd. Lauren Tang (7th), Joanna Benjamin (14th), and Sophia Rincon (16th) also medaled, leading a sweep that showed Coppells depth and talent.

Coachs Perspective

Coach Wren praised his athletes efforts:

It is a big deal anytime you win a race as a team. I am super proud of these JV runners winning a Varsity race. Our girls dominated the competition, and our JV Boys were right there competing for the top spot. This meet was a great tune-up for District. I cant wait to see the kids compete one last time this season at North Lakes Park in Denton against stiff district competition. Im confident that our kids will compete well.

Next up, Coppell heads to North Lakes Park in Denton for the District Meet on October 10. With momentum from Haltom and continued progress throughout the season, the Cowboys and Cowgirls are ready to take on their toughest challenge yet.

Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls Take On Cowboy Jamboree Challenge

The Coppell Varsity Cowboys and Cowgirls traveled to Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Friday, September 26, to compete in the Cowboy Jamboree against high school teams from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Arkansas. The beautiful, well-maintained Oklahoma State University course was also the toughest challenge Coppell has faced this season, testing both endurance and race strategy.

Cowboys Highlights

The Varsity Boys finished 9th out of 44 teams in a competitive field of 467 runners. Coppells top performers were Diego Morales (42nd), Sidharth Kerthipati (66th), Tanish Neelapu (79th), and Rohit Kalpathy (81st). Coach Wren noted how the boys worked together throughout the race, showing signs of the team unity that will be critical at District.

Cowgirls Highlights

On the girls side, Maya Easterwood dominated the Varsity Girls race, taking first place by more than 40 seconds. Coach praised her race plan and control from start to finish. Finleigh Sanders (81st) and Anusha Patki (83rd) also turned in strong performances, working well together in a field of 389 runners.

Coachs Perspective

Coach Wren reflected, This was the most challenging course weve run this year, but I like where we are heading into District. The boys truly ran like a team for the first time this season, and Maya showed just how strong she can be when she executes her plan. If we can perform well on the OSU course, then the District course will feel like a piece of cake.

Next up, Coppell prepares for the District meet in Denton. With momentum from a strong showing at Cowboy Jamboree, both the Cowboys and Cowgirls are eager to test themselves against familiar rivals.

Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls Take On Dual Challenge at Lewisville and Nike South Meets

The Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls faced back-to-back competition last week in two new and challenging locations. On Thursday, September 18, the JV squads ran at the Rick Neill Memorial Meet at Lake Park in Lewisville, while on Friday, September 19, the Varsity teams tested themselves at the Nike South Invitational. Both meets brought high humidity and unfamiliar courses, providing a valuable test for Coppells runners as District approaches.

Cowboys Highlights

At the Lewisville meet, Sam Meier dominated the Varsity Boys division, running confidently from start to finish in his return from injury. Strong support came from Allan Ramirez, Abishek Suresh, Rigved Nehere, Aiden George, and Nolan Reeder, all of whom impressed with their aggressive racing on a tough course.

At Nike South, Coppells Varsity Boys Elite squad continued to show promise. Diego Morales once again displayed his consistency, while teammates Tanish Neelapu and Sidharth Kerthipati turned in strong performances. Coach Wren noted that Tanish is rounding into form and that Sid continues to improve each week. Srivanth Rudrangi stepped up as Coppells top runner in the Varsity Boys division, providing valuable leadership for the squad.

Cowgirls Highlights

At Lewisville, Bishakha Sinha led the Cowgirls with a 10th-place finish in the Varsity Girls division. Coach Wren praised her hard work in practice and believes she will continue to improve as the season progresses.

At Nike South, Coppells Varsity Girls Elite team battled a stacked field. Maya Easterwood led the way with an impressive 4th-place finish, while freshmen Finleigh Sanders and Anusha Patki turned in strong races to bolster the team. With five underclassmen in key roles, the Cowgirls continue to gain experience and confidence heading into championship season.

Coachs Perspective

Coach Wren reflected, Both meets were great opportunities for our runners to face tough competition on new courses. It was exciting to see Sam Meier back strong, Bishakha pushing herself into the top 10, and our Varsity teams stepping up at Nike South. We are young, but this group continues to work hard and improve each week. Im confident that the progress were making will pay off when District arrives.

Next up, Coppells Varsity teams will travel to the Cowboy Jamboree to compete on a college course against another strong field. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad will race at the Jesuit XC Classic, a traditionally fast meet that always produces exciting results.

Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls Race to Season Bests at Southlake Invitational

The Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls cross-country teams competed at the Southlake XC 5K Invitational on September 6 at Bob Jones Park. Coppell was one of 29 schools in attendance, with over 1,600 runners across divisions that ranged from 182 to 453 athletes each. It was a competitive field on a fast course and Coppell rose to the occasion.

Coach Wren noted, It was great competition on a fast course. Overall, over 90% of the Coppell runners ran either a personal best or season best.

Cowboys Highlights

In the Varsity Boys Elite race, Coppell finished 15th overall with all eight runners earning season best times. Diego Morales, Sam Meier, Tyler Kim, and Sidharth Kerthipati led the way, showing strong progression. I love the progression I saw from this group. Im optimistic that we are moving in the right direction, said Coach Wren.

The Varsity Boys Open team placed 11th overall. Srivanth Rudrangi and Marco Noyola led the team, with many runners working toward spots on the Elite Varsity squad. The JV Boys earned a 9th-place finish, led by Ansh Patel, Hugh Harris, Rigved Nehere, and Abishek Suresh.

Cowgirls Highlights

The Varsity Girls Elite team finished 19th overall, a strong performance given that five of the seven runners are freshmen and the squad was without its top runner this week. Finleigh Sanders, Anusha Patki, and Rachel Stumm led Coppell, with both Finleigh and Anusha running season best times. This group continues to gain confidence each time out, Wren shared.

In the Varsity Girls Open race, Hannah Stumm and Charlotte Baade led the Cowgirls to a 17th-place team finish. Coach praised the depth and competitiveness of the girls roster: Like the boys, the girls on this team continue to battle for a spot on the Elite Varsity team. I love the competition that we have amongst our top runners this year. I believe itll lead to some great things later on.

The JV Girls team placed 18th, with standout efforts from Shrriya Bedse, Marge Tse, and Joanna Benjamin.

Coachs Perspective

Coach Wren reflected on the overall performance: Im extremely encouraged by what I saw this weekend. Over 90% of our runners achieved a personal best or season best, which shows how hard this team is working. We have a great mix of experienced runners and freshmen who are gaining confidence every meet.

Next up, Coppell will compete at the Lovejoy XC Fall Festival on Saturday, September 13, at Myers Park in McKinney. The meet will provide another strong test as the Cowboys and Cowgirls continue to build momentum.

Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls Compete at Greenhill 6-Mile Relay

The Coppell cross-country teams competed in the Greenhill-Lukes Locker 6-Mile Relay on August 23, opening their second meet of the season in a unique and competitive format. Each runner completed a 1.5-mile leg, combining for a total of six miles per four-person team. The Texas heat added an extra challenge, but Coppells athletes showed resilience and teamwork throughout the event.

Coach Wrens Perspective

This meet was a lot of fun for the kids that competed, said Coach Wren. The setup is different than a typical cross-country meet. Each school is made up of multiple four-person teams that each run a total of six miles, with each runner completing 1.5 miles individually.

Cowgirls Highlights

Varsity Girls: Finleigh Sanders, Anusha Patki, Bishakha Sinha, and Rachel Stumm placed 8th in 39:28.
JV A Girls: Vanini Agarwal, Rhea Bala, Pragna Vykuntam, and Carolina Saenz finished 9th in 44:54.
JV B Girls: Marge Tse, Joanna Benjamin, Lojayna Ahmed, and Sophia Sarmiento placed 10th in 47:48.

It was fun to see all of the girls compete in a fun but competitive atmosphere, Wren said.

Cowboys Highlights

Varsity Boys: Sam Meier, Tanish Neelapu, Sidharth Kerthipati, and Diego Morales earned 4th in 31:05. Tyler Kim, Itsuki Pena, Jose Murillo, and Srivanth Rudrangi followed with a 9th-place finish in 32:38.
JV A Boys: Vihaan Sahni, Vihaan Sharma, Farhan Mohammed, and Marco Noyola placed 3rd in 33:14. Allan Ramirez, Cannon Stehly, Lukas Stumm, and Aiden George finished 8th in 35:23.
JV B Boys: Noah Law, Hugh Harris, Nolan Reeder, and Rigved Nehere ran 33:41 to take 3rd. Aaron Joseph, Dee Raibourn, Nehemiah Skariah, and Nikhil Pande secured 10th in 35:50.

It is a lot of fun for me to watch the kids work together in their relay teams, Wren added.

Looking Ahead

Coach Wren noted, We really seem to be progressing. This weeks Coach T-Marcus Invitational is going to be a good measuring stick to see where we are as a team right now. Itll be our first 5K of the season on the district course against many of our district opponents.

The upcoming T Marcus Invitational in Denton will mark Coppells first 5K of the season and a key test against district competition.

The Coppell High School cross-country teams opened their 2024 season under the lights at McInnish Park this past Friday night, competing against 22 schools at the annual Friday Night Hawk Invitational. The two-mile night race provided a unique atmosphere, and Coppell athletes delivered standout performances across all divisions.

Cowboys Highlights

Coach Wren reflected, It was a cool experience for the kids to run underneath the lights on a Friday night. Although the race was only 2 miles, I saw a lot of good things from the kids.

Freshman Vihaan Sahni won the JV Boys division, while fellow freshman Vihaan Sharma led Coppells Varsity squad as its top performer. In the Elite Varsity Boys race, Diego Morales finished in the top five, with teammates Tanish Neelapu and Sam Meier both placing in the top 10. Freshman Tyler Kim also stood out as the fastest Coppell ninth grader.

Cowgirls Highlights

On the girls side, Coach Wren noted, Overall, I was pleased with how many of our younger runners competed. I look forward to seeing them continue to improve as the year goes on.

Freshman Charlotte Baade, recently cleared from injury, secured a top-10 finish in the JV Girls race. In Varsity competition, freshman Hannah Stumm emerged as Coppells top finisher.

The Elite Varsity Girls race was highlighted by senior standout Maya Easterwood, who dominated the field to win by nearly 40 seconds. Four Coppell freshmen Rachel Stumm, Finleigh Sanders-Burk, Anusha Patki, and Bishakha Sinha followed close behind, with Rachel and Finleigh earning top-20 finishes.

With a strong mix of experienced leaders and promising newcomers, the Coppell Cowboys and Cowgirls are poised for a memorable season. The team next competes at the Lukes Locker 6-Mile Relay, an early test of both depth and teamwork.

Coppell Family Honors Daughters Legacy with Day of Love and Community Workshop

Coppell resident Caitlin Rogers tragically lost her life on February 16, 2022, when she was fatally shot by her former abuser. At the time of the incident, Caitlin was on her way to meet his mother to share her truth about their relationship. She intended to explain the abuse she had endured, the reasons for cutting ties, and how she had begun to reclaim her life and move forward.

In her memory, Caitlins parents, Richard and Anne Rogers, have declared February 16th as a Day of Love. This initiative is dedicated to honoring Caitlins life and raising awareness about relationship violence in Coppell and beyond.

To mark this day, the Rogers family has partnered with the One Love Foundation to host a workshop at Caitlins alma mater, New Tech High, on February 16, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The workshop is free and open to high school students, educators, coaches, and parents. Participants will learn to recognize the signs of unhealthy relationships and how to promote healthy ones.

One Loves mission is to empower young people with the knowledge and tools they need to foster healthy relationships while identifying unhealthy behaviors, said Anne Rogers. We hope this workshop will help prevent others from experiencing the pain Caitlin and our family went through.

In addition to the workshop, Day of Love t-shirts were sold to honor Caitlins memory. There are still some shirts available and theyre just $14 while supplies last! Each shirt comes with a free Day of Love decal. If youre interested in purchasing one (or a few), please send a DM through @caitlinsdayoflove on Instagram. Community members are encouraged to wear their shirts on February 16th to show support for Caitlins legacy and the fight against relationship violence.

Over 100 of Texas top high school runners lined up at the UIL 6A State Cross Country Championships on November 1-2, 2024, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, and Coppell's Maya Easterwood delivered big! Maya took an impressive 3rd place with a time of 17:36.80, finishing among the states best.

Facing some serious competition from across Texas, Maya held her own and earned a podium spot, right up there with champions Macy Wingard from Denton Braswell and Lily Fawcett from Bridgeland.

Coach Wren shared his excitement, saying:

"We are so incredibly proud of Maya. Finishing 3rd at the State Meet is an incredible accomplishment. She had an unbelievable season but it wasnt surprising because of how hard she works in practice. I know she will continue to grow as a runner and I cant wait to see whats in store for her these next two high school seasons.

Congratulations to Maya and to the entire Coppell cross-country team for an incredible season of dedication and hard work! Each runner pushed their limits, supported their teammates, and represented Coppell with pride. Heres to an even stronger season next year!

Coppell Varsity Takes on 300+ Teams at Hoka/McNeil Invitational in Round Rock

Our Varsity team traveled to Round Rock, Texas, to compete in the Hoka/McNeil Invitational on Saturday, September 21. With over 300 teams competing, the race featured some of the toughest competition in the state on the challenging state course. Despite the intense field, our athletes delivered impressive performances, showing both determination and grit. For many of our fresh runners, this meet provided valuable experience as they prepare for future competitions.

Individual and Team Highlights

Top Performers for the Male Runners

Gold Boys HS Teams (Overall 25thPlace):

Grant ONeal finished 86th - 16:51.00
Rohit Kalpathy finished 108th - 17:00.10
Rodrigo Abrego finished 134th - 17:13.80

Coach Wren added:

The varsity boys have been dealing with different illnesses over the course of the last three weeks. We were once again running without one of our runners. It was not a great day for our varsity boys. Grant O'Neal led the way. I felt like Rodrick Abrego ran a good race as well. It was Rodrick's first race with our top team, so I was anxious to see how he would do.

Silver Boys HS Teams (Overall 23rd Place):

Diego Morales finished 51st - 17:28.90
Sam Meier finished 83rd - 17:51.40
Aiden George finished 128th - 18:22.40

Per Coach Wren:

"The course got the best of our silver group as well. That said, I felt like Diego Morales ran well after being out a few weeks. I also felt like Sam Meier continues to impress during his 9th-grade year."

Gold Girls HS Teams (Overall 25th Place):

Maya Easterwood finished 3rd - 17:37.50
Mallory Sherrer finished 76th - 19:50.90
Rachel Arrington finished 184th - 21:17.10

Coach Wren commented:
"Maya Easterwood ran a 17:37, improving her best course time by over 30 seconds. She finished 3rd overall. Maya was in control the entire race and really attacked the course. She was fun to watch and is running with a lot of confidence right now. Mallory Sherrer was Coppell's #2 runner on Saturday and ran the best time she's ever run on this 5k course. I was also impressed with how well Avery Fishman ran as she PR'd."

6A Varsity Girls HS Teams (Overall 23rd Place):

Akshaya Ashokanand finished 103rd - 23:19.40
Rhea Bala finished 104th - 23:19.50
Shreya Shah finished 120th 23:32.10

Coach Wren added:
"I was proud of how these girls battled through hot and humid conditions. The three that stood out the most were Akshaya Ashokanand, Rhea Bala, and Shreya Shah."

We look forward to running in the Jesuit XC Classic this Saturday as a final tune-up before District.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, our team remains focused and is preparing for the Jesuit Classic meet in Oak Point. With each race, our runners gain valuable experience, and theyll be ready to compete and showcase their progress at the upcoming meet.
