Victory Place @ Coppell hosted a blood drive on Sept. 14th receiving 48 donations, pushing Victory Place to exceed its goal in units donated.  Victory Place is very thankful for the community, staff, and learners for making it a great success.   Even though it was a rainy day, the American Red Cross staff kept busy with a steady flow of donors. Each blood donation can help save up to three lives. In fact every two seconds someone in America needs blood, from trauma victims to cancer patients, mothers giving birth to premature babies and so many more. A high number of Victory Place learners participated in this service event.  Pictured Victory Place @ Coppell learners are Karissa Bowlby, Robert Patterson, Cailee Newberry. Victory Place @ Coppell recently hosted a blood drive and we exceeded our goal in units donated.  We appreciate our donors for taking the time on April 27, 2018 to donate blood with the American Red Cross. Because of your donations, and the help of the other volunteers, we were able to collect 29 pints of blood.

Of course, the real winners are the patients in need of blood. As you know, each blood donation can help save up to three lives. In fact every two seconds someone in America needs blood, from trauma victims to cancer patients, mothers giving birth to premature babies and so many more. These donations are truly appreciated by the blood recipients and their loved ones. Pictured Victory Place @ Coppell learners are Jada Chavez, Michelle Olson, Michael Widish, and Andrew Moore. The educator is Mrs. Andrea Cook.

As a luncheon guest at the Hotel Crescent Court in Dallas, Texas, several Victory Place @ Coppell learners were able to listen to speaker Adam Segal, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and director of its Digital and Cyberspace Policy Program, who is an expert on the complexities of the web. His latest book, The Hacked World Order: How Nations Fight, Trade, Maneuver, and Manipulate in the Digital Age, offers sobering insights into the contentious geopolitics that are quickly becoming the new normal. Mr. Segal considers how the rise of digital technology—particularly the Internet and social media—are not only transforming the way we get news, but rewiring our political system, national security, diplomatic relations, and much more. Our learners gained insightful information concerning pressing cyber issues along with how our country and other countries are implementing laws to take downcombat the spread of fake news. Madeline Rocha said “Mr. Segal made me think about how autonomous cars could be hacked on the freeway, which makes me concerned about security issues from hackers in the future.”  This event was hosted by World Affairs Council Dallas. Pictured learners are Lucas Jackowski, Jennifer Sun, Jaden Soria, and Madeline Rocha. The educator is Mrs. Andrea Cook.
