Coppell, TX: Valentine Premier Roofing & General Contracting (VPR), based in Coppell, TX, joined into the spirit of hometown football by donating 500 cowbells to this past Friday night’s season home opener when Coppell defeated McKinney Boyd 34 - 24.  The bells were passed out to the kids in the Student Section prior to game time and were used from kickoff to game’s end continuously. VPR hopes the students will bring their cowbells to all sporting events throughout this school year and cheer on their school’s athletes in all sports.

It’s hard to believe, but the last major hail storm that hit Coppell was 5 years ago. Children born then will head off to Kindergarten this Fall. That pop-up hail storm covered about half of Coppell and left cars totaled, trees downed, power out and thousands of roofs damaged.

That kind of storm immediately attracts waves of trucks with magnetic signs claiming to be roofing and construction companies. With no required certifications or licensing in Texas, just about anyone can represent themselves as a roofer. Buyer beware…it’s on the customer to research whom they choose to do business with. Unfortunately, many homeowners don’t even do a Google search to investigate the company to whom they hand over their insurance check. Some never see that money again nor a new roof installed; at that point it’s a too late to start doing your research. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

We’ve all seen the news reports of people all over the country that have been scammed for their insurance claim money and never see the roofer again, not to mention never receiving the repairs or replacement roof they contracted for. Unfortunately, this happened right here in Coppell following that April 2012 hail storm when some residents used a few of the fly-by-night roofers that swept into the area delivering less than top-quality workmanship with the least expensive materials. Now when there is an issue, that roofing company is nowhere to be found.

A Coppell born and raised couple, John and Angie Arthur, suffered that fate with the house they purchased following that storm. The previous home owner replaced the roof with a company that used inferior products and “the worst workmanship I’ve seen in the 30 years I’ve been a roofer,” per Homer Ramirez, an employee of Valentine Premier Roofing & General Contracting.

“We'd always noticed problems with the roof from the day we moved in, but when water begin to drip through our bedroom ceiling we tried contacting the company that had replaced the roof and they were nowhere to be found. Even worse, our insurance company wouldn't replace our roof as poor workmanship was not covered on our policy. Luckily, John Valentine and his crew replaced our roof and also fixed a completely different problem I had by adding gutters and replacing some old siding. I was blown away by the generosity of this local company,” said John Arthur, Coppell home owner.

When VPR owner, John Valentine, and Homer inspected the roof after Angie called with complaints of multiple leaks, they couldn’t believe what they saw. John said that he “could not let this go and knew our company must help this young family.”

Valentine Premier Roofing & General Contracting is no stranger to giving back in this community.  Although the company is less than 3 years old, VPR has already donated several thousand dollars to local non-profits in Coppell though the VPR Community Impact Program. For any residential or commercial insurance re-roof job, the company will make a donation to the client’s local 501c3 of choice that agrees to be a part of the VPR Community Impact Program. Doing the Arthur’s re-roof as a no-profit project spurred an idea; VPR plans to do the same for a family in one of the communities we serve each year. VPR is preparing criteria to be used moving forward in choosing that one no-profit job per year.

Valentine Premier Roofing & General Contracting is owned and operated by longtime Coppell residents John and Kristi Valentine and the company’s office is in Coppell. The company specializes in roofing, exterior repairs & renovations for residential, commercial & multi-dwelling unit properties.

Matthew Amon is VPR’s Project Manager overseeing multi-dwelling unit, commercial and residential projects.  Amon has worked in Construction and Project Management roles for close to a decade on heavy highway bridge projects then commercial structures and now residential projects, too. Amon is an Army Combat Veteran of 3 combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.  He is a Citizen-Soldier and currently serves in the Texas Army National Guard as a Combat Engineer. Although he stays busy balancing his full-time job with VPR and his various duties as a Citizen-Soldier, he is most proud of his job as a husband and proud father of three.  Amon joined VPR since October 2016.

Susan Law just joined VPR as the Office Manager.  Law comes to VPR with over 20 years of experience in property management from large multi-family residential properties to commercial and hospitality property management.  She will be handling the back-office processes and vendor management. When not helping VPR grow the company, Law enjoys riding her Harley. She is most proud of her grown daughter, Katelynn, who proudly served in the US Naval Security Forces.

Lloyd Nichols recently joined the VPR team as a Sales Agent. Nichols has an accomplished career of almost 40 years in the insurance industry having been a full-time agent for Allstate, owning and operating several offices in the DFW area including Coppell, Irving, Farmers Branch & Euless.  He was recognized through the years with numerous awards including 11 years as an Allstate Honor Ring winner.  A few years ago, Nichols added a real estate license to his credit, as well. He brings that applicable experience to the VPR team allowing him to assist customers in the residential, commercial and mulit-dwelling unit properties to better navigate insurance adjustments and claims for replacement roofs following storm/wind damage. Nichols and his wife, Roxie, were long-time residents in Coppell but upon becoming empty-nesters moved into Dallas.

Kristi Valentine, partner/owner of VPR, recently joined the team after serving as the President & CEO of the Coppell Chamber for 4 years.  She left the Chamber at the end of 2016 to take an active role in the family business that her husband, John, had started and run alone since its formation in 2014.  Valentine serves as the VP of Marketing & Business Development and will also manage the VPR Community Impact Program that allows customers to choose a favorite local charitable organization to receive a donation in the customer’s honor after an insurance re-roof.  She brings a successful career in advertising, marketing and community relations to this position and will utilize her skills and talents to create awareness for VPR throughout DFW as part of the company’s plans for growth and expansion.  John and Kristi Valentine are both DFW natives and have lived in Coppell for almost 20 years. They have two children, Reid age 17, and Maura age 14, and being active participants and volunteers in their home community of Coppell has always been an important part of their family life.
