The Cowgirls winning, record setting 200 medley relay team on the podium at the District Meet.

CHS swimmers competed in their big District meet last Friday, January 24 at the LISD Aquatic Center in The Colony. Multiple swimmers from the six teams in District 5-5A competed to earn one of the top six spots in each event to be able to advance to the Regional Meet on February 7 and 8. Congratulations to the Cowboys and Cowgirls who will be advancing to the Regional Meet. The four Cowboys that qualified in individual events are Seniors Luke Meyer who qualified in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and Mason David in the 100 breaststroke. Juniors Matt Gonzalez qualified in the 200 freestyle and Vitor Zucco in the 100 breaststroke and 500 freestyle.

Cowgirls that will be attending the coveted Regional Meet are Senior JoAnn Chu in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Juniors Shannon Wheeler in the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle, Jenna Loria in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle, Ashlynn Hernandez in the 50 and 100 freestyle and Sarah Zeh in the 100 breaststroke. The only sophomore that will be attending the Regional Meet in an individual event is Savannah Henry who qualified in the 100 backstroke. Seniors Luke Meyer and JoAnn Chu were named swimmers of the meet for Coppell. 

Another noteworthy swim was the Cowgirls 200 medley relay team that won the race and broke the Coppell High School record with a new time of 1:52 seconds. The relay team members were Henry swimming backstroke, Loria swimming breaststroke, Wheeler swimming butterfly and Chu anchoring the relay with freestyle.

The swimmers will be training and tapering this next week in preparation for their big meet. Good luck to all the swimmers!
