The Cowboys competed in the championship game at the MAST in Orlando, FL.

The Coppell Cowboys Varsity Soccer Team squared off against # 1 nationally ranked Montverde Academy in the Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament (MAST) championship game on Saturday, January 17th in Orlando, Florida for a rematch of last year's title game.  The #3 nationally ranked Cowboys were defeated by Montverde, who has not lost a single game since 2010,  in a close 1-0 battle.   The Cowboys made it to the championship game by downing Cathedral High School (Los Angeles, CA) in a thriller overtime penalty kick shoot out.

The Cowboys took an early lead over Cathedral in the 8th minute when Senior Colten Clark had a shot that rebounded off the post, but was blasted in by Senior Roberto Arguello.  The Cowboys were able to score again in the 26th minute when a great through ball from Stephen Tower to Colten Clark was blasted by Montverde's goal keeper by Austin Michaelis making it 2-0 Cowboys.  Cathedral was able to come back and score right before half time and again in the 73rd minute to tie the game at 2-2 sending the game into an overtime shootout.

Senior Cowboys goalkeeper, Robbie Coens, was the star of the game when he stuffed a shot by Montverde's Nomar Ibarra in the final round of penalty kicks, ending the game and giving the Cowboys a 4-3 shootout win and sending his teammates running onto the field to congratulate him.  Seniors Stephen Tower, Drew Brinda, Griffin Jaksa and Roberto Arguello scored penalty kicks for the Cowboys.  A big congratulations to Seniors Colten Clark and Griffin Jaksa for making the All Tournament Team and to Robbie Coens for being awarded Best Save of the Tournament.  Way to go Cowboys!

The Cowboys returned home from Orlando on Sunday, January 18th and will play Jesuit on Tuesday, January 20th and Irving on Friday, January 23rd.  The Cowboys begin their District season on Tuesday, Jan. 27th when they take on L.D.
