Need to shake hands with a chimney sweep for good luck?  How about taking a fantasy trip to the park where statues come to life?  When was the last time you had gingerbread stars from the Talking Shop?  Would you like to dance with the chimney sweeps overlooking the rooftops of London?  As Mary Poppins says:  “Anything Can Happen If You Let It!”

It is happening as First United Methodist Church of Coppell presents the Broadway smash musical “Mary Poppins” on March 20, 21, and 22 at the new Ministry Center located at 425 S. Heartz Road.  Presentations on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, are at 7:00 pm; the presentation on Sunday, March 22 is at 5:00 pm.  All seats are reserved, and ticket prices are $12, $16, and $20.  Tickets are available by calling the church office at 972-462-0471 anytime during office hours of 8:30 am-4:30 pm.  Payment for tickets is by cash or check only.

Based on the Academy Award Winning Disney movie and the books of P. L. Travers, “Mary Poppins” is a Tony-award winning Broadway musical featuring familiar songs from the movie as well as new songs with great choreography and new characters for the show.  Favorites such as “Jolly Holiday,” “Step In Time,” and “Chim-Chim-Cher-ee” are joined by such new songs as “Practically Perfect,” “Anything Can Happen,” and “Brimstone and Treacle.”

The FUMC production features Lauren Robertson Danby as Mary Poppins; Cole Cloutier as Bert; Ken Simmons as George Banks; Allison Davis as Winifred Banks; Emma Harper as Jane Banks; and Will Manchester as Michael Banks.  Over twenty high school and middle school students as well as several adult community members are part of the cast.  Emily Baker serves as Director, Whitney Hennen as Choreographer, and Ricky Mitchell as Music Director.  Sylvia Pollard is the Set Designer and Technical Director.

This show is a rejuvenation of a long-standing tradition of annual youth and community musicals at First United Methodist Church, and the first presentation in the new Ministry Center which opened December 2014.  Featuring 372 individual padded seats in an intimate auditorium-style setting, the Ministry Center touts state-of-the-art sound and lighting technology, including environmental projection that creates light magic over the entire front of the stage.
