Coppell, TX - The Coppell High School Color Guard finished first in Round 1, and first overall in the Scholastic A Class of the North Texas Colorguard Association’s Guard Contest held at Aledo High School on Saturday, January 31. The Aledo competition is the first of three competitions leading up to the state championship, which will take place at the end of March.
During the Round 1 contest in Aledo, Coppell competed against 18 high schools from across North Texas. Color Guard teams are judged on equipment, movement, design, and general effect. “We went into this competition with no expectations,” said Daylen Rivera, CHS Head Color Guard Director. “These girls have worked so hard. This is the first year that I have taught in Coppell and I am humbled by how awesome the kids are, as well as the Coppell community and this program. We are very excited about the Aledo results and look forward to the rest of the season.”
This year’s show, entitled “Within These Walls”, is choreographed to music by Liz Longley. The CHS Color Guard will travel next to the Winter Guard International’s Austin Regional on February 21 at Lehman High School in Kyle, Texas. CHS is scheduled to perform at 2:13 p.m. in the preliminary round. Finals begin at 5:45 p.m.
