The Coppell Girls' Varsity Cross Country team and Evan Caswell traveled to Lubbock to compete in the Region 1-6A Championship on the 5K course at Mae Simmons Park on Monday, October 22.  Head Coach Nick Benton was proud of the Coppell athletes.  “All of the athletes from Coppell that competed, qualified for the state championship,” said Benton.  “Our athletes have worked hard all season competing on a weekly basis in tough competition; this is a tremendous accomplishment to be moving on to the biggest meet of the year”.

The Varsity Girls’ team will move on to the State Championship as a team.  The cowgirls placed 4th overall, the top four teams in a region qualify for the state meet.  There was a very narrow margin of point difference between the top four girls’ teams in Region 1-6A.  Sophomore Natalie Fleming led Coppell, she finished 15th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 13.5 seconds.  Chloe Hassman (17th, 18:23.3), Shelby Spoor (21st, 18:34.6), Maddie Hulcy (24th, 18:38.9), Rowan Hassman (30th, 19:00), Morgan Colon (55th, 19:39.6), and Rebecca Centeno (60th, 19:52.6) competed for Coppell.  Alternates for the girls’ team are Grace Turman, Izzy Iseley, Dia Atluri, Taylor Peltier, and Catie Kimball.

Sophomore Evan Caswell will move on to the state championship as an individual boys’ qualifier.  Evan finished 9th overall with a time of 15 minutes, 14 seconds.  His time is incredibly fast especially considering Evan accomplished this pace on the hilly Mae Simmons course.

Evan Caswell and the Girls’ Varsity team are excited to move onto the State 6A Championship.  The State 6A Championship will take place on Saturday, November 3 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
