The Coppell High School Boys lacrosse program wrapped up their Fall season by hosting Colleyville Lacrosse and Parrish Episcopal School on Saturday. There were four games played between the teams, including both upper classmen and younger players, and for Coppell, it was first game action of the season for many Cowboy players who recently joined from varsity football.

Coppell’s first game was against Division I foe Colleyville. After a slow start, the Cowboys settled down and started to hit their rhythm, as Senior Walker Cain opened the scoring on a nice feed from LSM Cannon Peters, then Cain found Sophomore Gavin Osteen for a score. Coppell controlled possession for much of the half, which featured unassisted goals by Junior Leo Swaldi, Sophomore defenseman Remi Reynolds, and Senior Ethan Bivens, resulting in a 5-2 halftime lead.

The 2ndhalf was more of the same as Osteen added 2 more goals, and Freshman Nick Rogers scored on a nice feed from Walker Cain. Seniors Reece Reynolds and Luke Bivens, not to be outdone by their brothers, each added a goal, giving Coppell a 10-4 win in their opener.

In their next game, it was a tale of two halves as Parrish Episcopal dominated the 1sthalf scoring by tallying the first 4 goals of the game before Reece Reynolds found Treat Judlin for a nice step down shot and score for Coppell. Parrish answered back with two more goals to take a 6-1 lead into the halftime break.

The Cowboy defense stepped up their game in the 2ndhalf, led by Sophomore Cannon Peters with 2 ground balls and 1 forced turnover, and Senior Jack Liese adding 1 forced turnover, 1 groundball, plus an assist at the offensive end. The defensive unit combined for a shutout in the 2ndhalf.

The offense looked much sharper in the second half as they scored 6 goals, including Junior Peyton Barron finding Walker Cain for one goal, and Senior Brandon Point connecting with Freshman Jack McAdams for a pretty score from the crease. Swaldi added 2 goals in the half as well, and Sophomore Jacob Dashner fed Ethan Bivens for the game-winning goal with 3 minutes remaining, as Coppell rallied for the 7-6 come-from behind win.

In the final game of the day, Coppell faced off with Colleyville again, and the Cowboys saw continued production from some of their top performers on the day. Reece and Remi Reynolds added one more goal each, along with Swaldi (4 goals on the day) and Cain (3 goals, 2 assists on the day) also adding a goal each. The Bivens brothers teamed up when Ethan found Luke for another score. Sophomore Tyler Wendel joined the scoring with a goal and an assist, and Gavin Osteen had 2 assists to finish the day with 4 goals and 2 assists.

The defense was solid in the final game, led by goaltenders Junior Matt Dean and Freshman Sam Taylor, who combined to stop 9 of 12 shots and grabbed 2 ground balls. The faceoff duo of Reece Reynolds and Tyler Wendel was strong, winning 27 of 34 total face offs for the day (80%). Coppell came away with the 7-3 win, to finish the day with a perfect 3-0 record.

Thanks again to the players, coaches and fans from Colleyville, Coppell, and Parrish Episcopal for a fun day of lacrosse, and the Cowboys will now take a brief break over the holidays before starting their January practice schedule and prepping for their season opening game in early February.
