Four members of Coppell High School’s choir program will represent the school at the Texas All-State Choir in San Antonio on Saturday, Feb. 16.

Less than three percent of students who compete for spots in the all-state music ensembles are selected. Being a member of the All-State Choir is considered the highest honor a Texas music student can receive.

Sarah Bauer, a senior, earned a spot in the choir for the third consecutive year. Sarah said her trick to preparing is to learn the music at summer camp and then listen to it again and again until the notes and words become almost second nature to her. While she’s experienced in the process, she said that she felt more pressure this year than ever and she was pleased to be selected. Later this month, she will be auditioning for schools of music at colleges where she plans to pursue vocal performance as a major.

Jenna Hernandez, also a senior, was selected as first chair Alto II in this year’s choir. Jenna said that after she earned an alternate spot in last year’s choir, she set a goal to do better this year and do “whatever it took to make the choir.” Jenna plans to attend Baylor University next year.

Also selected to the choir, in the Soprano II section, were two junior students, Winona Martin and Megan Rich.

The Coppell High School Choir is under the direction of Joshua Brown and Will McLean. The All-State program is organized by the Texas Music Educators Association.
