The Coppell Cross Country team wrapped up the regular cross country season at the Jesuit Invitational at Norbuck Park in Dallas on Friday, October 5.  The 5K course at Norbuck Park features several uphill sections that challenge endurance as well as momentum.  Head Coach Nick Benton noted, “There was a tight battle for the last varsity spots, the Jesuit Invitational was an opportunity to finalize those spots for the upcoming District Championship”.     

The Girls’ team placed 5th overall in the 5A 6A Varsity Girls division without their top five runners.  Natalie Fleming led the girls she finished 16th overall with a time of 19 minutes, 50.7 seconds.  Rebecca Centeno (27th, 20:31.4), Grace Turman (31st, 20:39.3), Izzy Iseley (42nd, 21:01.5), and Jimena Benavides (56th, 21:45.9) scored for the cowgirls this week.  

The Cowboys’ placed 4th overall in the 5A 6A Varsity Boys division with their top four runners absent from the lineup.  Senior Garret Freddo led the cowboys, he finished 26th with a time of 17 minutes, 8.6 seconds.  Justin Chow (32nd, 17:16.6), Grant Evans (34th, 17:18), Rith Bhattacharyya (39th, 17:23.4), and Kaz Carlsen-Phelan (44th, 17:27.7) rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.

The Coppell girls placed 3rd overall in the JV division.  Coppell was led by Freshman Dia Atluri, she finished 7th overall in a time of 22 minutes 14 seconds.  Reezon Eke (8th, 22:25.2), Bernice David (11th, 22:42.6), Avery Hancock (13th, 22:46.4) and Izzy Ortizoga (14th, 22:50.2) were team point scorers this week. 

The Boys’ clinched 1st place overall in the JV Boys 6A division.  Sophomore Colin Proctor lead the boys with a 2nd place finish overall in a time of 17 minutes 46.5 seconds.  Top five finishing teammates were Parker Hicks (8th, 18:15.4), Chris Figueroa (9th, 18:17.9), Tomas Olivas (10th, 18:21.1), and William Heatherington (14th, 18:27.6).  

“It was great to see our athletes compete one last time before the District Championship,” said Head Coach Nick Benton.   Friday, October 12 Coppell will compete in the District 6-6A Championship at North Lakes Park in Denton.  The District Championship is the conclusion of the JV Cross Country season.  The top three Varsity Cross Country teams, as well as, the top ten individuals in District 6 will qualify to compete in the Region 1-6A Championship in Lubbock.
