The Coppell Girls Varsity Cross Country team competed in California on Saturday, September 15.  The top seven girls travelled to compete in the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic at the Silver Lakes Sports Complex in Corona.  The Woodbridge XC Classic brought together the excitement of night racing while competing against top teams from multiple states.

The Cowgirls placed 14th overall in the Womens 3 miles Sweepstakes, a field of 179 athletes and 23 teams.  The cowgirls were led by junior Shelby Spoor, she finished 49th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 21.2 seconds.  Shelby officially set a new 3 mile girls record at Coppell High School.  Chloe Hassman (51st, 17:25.6), Rowan Hassman (83rd, 17:53.3), Morgan Colon (106th, 18:11.9), Natalie Fleming (111th, 18:17), Isabella Iseley (18:19.5), and Maddie Hulcy (18:20.2) all competed for Coppell.

Head Coach Nick Benton was proud of the toughness the girls showed out in California.  “The Woodbridge Cross Country Classic was a great experience,” said Benton.  “I hope to go back next year with a larger group of athletes”.  Next on the schedule is the Coppell Invitational at the new Coppell West Middle School on Saturday, September 22.  There will be a 7:30 am rolling start.
