The majority of the Coppell Cross Country team competed in the Falcon Fast Invitational on the 5K course at Trinity Springs middle school in Keller on Saturday, September 15.  Coppell took away 1st place team finishes in three of the four divisions. 

The Coppell girls competed in the Varsity division with their top seven runners absent from the lineup and still managed to place 10th overall.  Freshman Rebecca Centeno (25th, 20:10.2) led the girls.  Grace Turman (29th, 20:25.3), Jimena Benavides (21:02), Elizabeth Miller (21:48), and Catherine McKethan (21:54.7) were the top finishers for Coppell.

Coppell boys’ won 1st place in the Varsity division.  Sophomore Evan Caswell ran a very strong race leading the cowboys with a 2nd place finish in a time of 16 minutes, 4.9 seconds.  Nathaniel Leach (9th, 16:29.1), Marcos Bohn (11th, 16:40.7), Jackson Walker (16th, 16:48.2), and Rith Bhattacharyya (17th, 16:49.5) rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.

In the JV division both the girls and boys teams took 1st place.  The Cowgirls JV team was led by Senior Catherine Kimball with a 1st place finish in a time of 21 minutes 18.2 seconds.  Dani Alfaro-Flores (2nd, 21:38.2), Izzy Ortizoga (3rd, 21:58.6), Daniela Chavarria (6th, 22:26), and Paola Hernandez (11th, 23:00.3) made up the top five runners for Coppell.  Junior Riley Warner (2nd, 17:40.3) led the boys in the JV division.  Andrew Nester (3rd, 17:52.3), Tomas Olivas (5th, 18:00.9), Drew Scrivner (6th, 18:02.4) and William Heatherington (7th, 18:10.5) all scored for the cowboys this week.

Benton observed that the Boys team continues to improve, each week another boy steps up.  “They are progressing well,” said Benton.  “Our freshman girls are also improving each week and it is fun to watch them battle it out with the upper classmen”.  Saturday, September 22 the team will be hosting the Coppell Invitational at Coppell West Middle School.  There will be a rolling start at 7:30 am.
