Zoebella leads Coppell JV Girls 8th place finish

The Keller Invitational at Indian Springs Middle School in Keller took place on Saturday, October 17.  The invitational provided Coppell with an opportunity to work on team score which is based on the top-five athletes’ finishing position in each race.  Head Coach Nick Benton commented, “This is always an exciting time during the season.  Each week athletes are stepping up,” to close a gap between teammate finishes or running a personal record.   

The Girls’ team placed 2nd overall in the Varsity division with a team score of 49.  Senior Natalie Fleming led the girls with a 7th place finish at 19 minutes, 15.9 seconds.  Alexa Turati (8th, 19:18), Morgan Colon (9th, 19:23), Waverly Hassman (10th, 19:35), and Hanna Noyola (15th, 19:58) scored for the cowgirls this week. 

The Cowboys’ also secured 2nd overall in the Varsity division with a team score of 50.  Senior Rith Bhattacharyya led the cowboys, he finished 2nd with a time of 15 minutes, 39.5 seconds.  Andrew Mullen (4th, 15:53), Colin Proctor (12th, 16:21), Raymundo Aguirre (15th, 16:25), and Kavin Chengavarayan (17th, 16:29) rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.

In the JV division the girls again placed 2nd overall.  Coppell was led by Junior Zoebella Madison, she finished 8th overall in a time of 22 minutes 11 seconds.  Jeana Sheurich (9th, 22:15), Alyza Siddiqui (11th, 22:39), Daniela Chavarria (13th, 22:47) and Dia Atluri (14th, 22:53) were the team point scorers this week. 

The boys’ clinched 1st place overall in the JV division.  Sophomore Ashan Habeeb led the boys with a 1st place finish in a time of 17 minutes 1 second.  Dylan Newsome (4th, 17:23.5), Alfred Fairchild (5th, 17:23.8), Cameron Churchill-Dowd (6th, 17:24), and Jorge Retana (8th, 17:47) rounded out the top five finishers.  

“Early season hard work is starting to pay off.  The team is now focused on performing at their best at the upcoming district meet,” said Coach Benton.  Benton added, “Our district is tough but our athletes will be ready.”  Saturday, October 24 is the final meet of the regular season.  The team will compete on home turf in the Coppell Invitational II at Coppell West Middle school.
