Coppell athletes - Philip Frank, Morgan Colon, and Jackson Walker advance to the State track and field meet in their events.
The Coppell High School Track and Field team took 33 athletes to the Region 2 – 6A meet on April 27-28 at Waco Midway High School with three Coppell athletes advancing to the State meet on May 11 – 12 at Mike A. Myers Stadium, The University of Texas at Austin. The top two athletes in each event advance to State.
Advancing to State are freshman, Morgan Colon, placing 2nd in the girls 800 meters with a time of 2:16.11; senior, Philip Frank, placing 2nd in the boys high jump at 6-07.00; and sophomore, Jackson Walker, placing 3rd in the boys 800 meters with a time of 1:54:55. Walker is advancing to State as one of two wildcards from the regional meets. Both Colon and Walker set personal records in their events.
Other notable performances at the Region 2 meet included senior, Payton Kirk, placing 6th in the girls 300 meter hurdles; senior, Rachel Okereke, placing 6th in the girls triple jump at 37-04.75; freshman, Chloe Hassman, placing 7th in the girls 1600 meters at 5:12.58; sophomore, Lauren Kellett, placing 7th in the girls triple jump at 37-00.75; sophomore, Garrison Wheatley, placing 4th in the boys shot put at 52-00.50; and junior, Corbin Hick, placing 4th in the boys discus throw at 173-01.
