Coppell ISD School Board President Tracy Fisher Runs for Third Term in May 5 Election

Coppell ISD school board President Tracy Fisher is seeking her third term on the board for her Place 7 seat in the May 5 election.

Fisher, who has served on the board since 2012, said she decided to run for re-election to support the work of the district's new superintendent, Brad Hunt, and also to continue to provide leadership to the board. If Fisher is elected, four of its seven members will have two years or less on the board.

Fisher has been actively involved in the district without ceasing since her children graduated from Coppell schools. She says her curious nature and her desire and ability to engage with education experts from all over the world are helpful in being a school board member.

"I am persistent about authentic learning and giving the students 'voice' and choice in what they are studying," Fisher says. "My board service has, and will continue to be, driven by the needs of each of our learners. I am a laser-focused advocate for students, teachers and our exceptional Coppell public schools."

Fisher is one of two certified Master School Board Trustees presently serving on the board and has nearly 350 hours of school board training.

She describes herself as a big picture, strategic thinker. She has worked to support children and public schools across the state through her work with region and state boards.

Most recently, Fisher said she helped organize two grassroots school board member assemblies in Austin during the Legislative Special Session.

"At the top of the Governor's list was passing school vouchers and no relief for the taxes we pay (recapture), Fisher said. "I know we made an impact on stopping that initiative in July, and now school voucher advocates are challenging our local incumbents and running for public school board seats.|

"I am working to retain the community aspect of the public schools while driving innovation for our children," she said.

In Coppell, Fisher said her biggest accomplishments as a school board member have been the opening of Lee Elementary and the hiring of Brad Hunt as superintendent.

Student growth will continue to be Coppell ISD's biggest issue over the next five years with addition of another 1,000 students during that time, Fisher said.

If re-elected, Fisher said she will work to complete, approve and begin implementation of the strategic design plan, start up three new schools, including the new west middle school, the freshman center and the new elementary in Valley Ranch and continue to advocate for great neighborhood public schools.
