Personal Records Achieved at State Cross Country Championship

The Texas State Championship meet took place at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Saturday, November 4.  Sixteen 6A teams along with ten individual qualifiers from each region competed on the 5K state course.  The pace set by 150 of the best 6A distance runners in the state lead to some extraordinary personal records.

The Coppell Girls Cross Country team finished 7th at the State Championship meet.  Freshman Natalie Fleming set a personal record of 18:23.10 leading Coppell with a 21st place finish overall.  Junior Maddie Hulcy ran an impressive 18:29.95 coming in next with a 28th place finish for Coppell.   Rowan Hassman (19:35.68) in 84th, Chloe Hassman in 92nd, Morgan Colon in 93rd, Taylor Peltier in 108th place and Izzy Iseley in 112th place made up the 2017 competing members of the Coppell Girls Varsity team at the State Championship.

Individual state qualifier Kazmir Carlson-Phelan claimed a personal record of 15:50.18 at the State Championship.  He finished 43rd overall in an incredibly fast 6A boys division.

The State Championship was not the conclusion to the Coppell Cross Country season.  The season will official wrap up at the Nike South Regional meet.  The top 21 runners from both the Girls and Boys teams will travel to Bear Branch Park in the Woodlands to compete on Saturday, November 18.
