JV Boys take 1st at Dallas Jesuit Classic Photographer: Gina Warner

Dallas Jesuit Classic was final regular season competition for CHS Cross Country

 

On Friday, October 6 the Coppell Cross Country team competed in the Dallas Jesuit Classic 5K races at Norbuck Park in Dallas.  In a field of 30+ teams, Coppell continues to hold their own as the regular 2017 season winds down.     

The Varsity Girls team finished 2nd behind Ursuline Academy.  Freshman Natalie Fleming was the top finisher for the girls with a 3rd place finish in a time of 18:59.29.  Chloe Hassman (19:32.49) placed 7th, Rowan Hassman (20:19.46) was 15th, Izzy Iseley took 24th place and Taylor Peltier in 29th place were the top five finishers for Coppell.

The Varsity Boys team secured a 3rd place team finish.  Senior Matteo Aguis-D’Arrigo has consistently led the boys’ team all season.  He placed 10th overall in a time of 16:29.31.  Juniors; Marcos Bohn (16:38.08) took 17th, Nathaniel Leach (16:54.65) placed 23rd, Kaz Carlsen-Phelan (16:55.53) was 24th, and Justin Chow in 27th place made up the top five finishers for Coppell.

The JV Girls team finished 2nd just behind Lewisville Hebron.  Sophomore Sydney Rowe (21:08.55) led the girls this week with an overall finish of 3rd place.  Immediately behind her was junior Jimena Benavides (21:09.7) in 4th place.  Rounding out the top five finishers for Coppell were Gracie McKethan (21:24.82) in 7th place, Shelby Spoor in 12th place, and Kaitlin Reznicek in 13th place.

The JV Boys team brought back a 1st place team finish.  Junior Cole Lindbeck took 1st place overall in a time of 17:24.36. Senior AJ Rothwell placed 2nd overall with a time of 17:33.16.  Other impressive top five finishers were Chris Figueroa (18:06.06) in 6th, Drew Scrivner in 10th, and Ethan Connell in 11th place.

Students from all three of the Coppell middle schools made their 2017 cross country racing debut on Friday.  Grace Turman took 9th place overall on the 2 mile middle school course.  Other competitors were Megan Peltier, Isabelle Ortiguza, Mary Roach, Caroline Dodd, and Waverly Hassman.  The regular cross country season for middle school students will begin in November.

Next on the schedule for Coppell is the District 9-6A Championship meet.  The team will return to Norbuck Park in Dallas on Thursday, October 12 to compete on the 5K course laid out for the District Championship.
