Coppell Women's Club Fall Luncheon

The Coppell Women’s Club recently held their fall luncheon at Hackberry Creek Country Club. Mayor Karen Hunt, longtime member of CWC, spoke on the topic “Out and About in Coppell.”

The mayor discussed Vision 2030 and the city budget with the ninety guests present. She praised the quality of restaurants and numerous service businesses in Coppell and stressed how important it was to support our local businesses.

“The city is very healthy,” she proclaimed. “We spend less than we take in,” which explains why the city council voted to reduce the tax rate by two cents in 2013.

Mayor Hunt also praised the job of Coppell city staff members, describing how they used resources well, and explained the City’s close relationship with the Chamber of Commerce and Coppell ISD. “We are the envy of many,” she said as she described how closely the City works with CISD, both helping each other. She cited youth sports as an example, with CISD wanting to turf an additional playing field and the City needing a field for Saturday football games. “By working together on this issue, citizens win.”

A question and answer session followed the mayor’s speech, with members receiving information about such issues as Kid Country, the City’s healthy initiative, the status of red light cameras, and the boardwalk to be rebuilt at Andy Brown Park.

The next regular meeting of the Coppell Women’s Club is November 7. The topic is “You, Your Home: Center Stage” with home staging and décor expert Belinda Hernandez. For more information about joining CWC, contact Annette Morton at: membership@coppellwomensclub.org
