EMAC Academy Hosts First Ever CHS Film Festival

By Shannon Wilkinson, BubbleLife Intern

The Emerging Media and Communications (EMAC) Academy hosted the first ever CHS Film Festival on Monday, April 29 in the Coppell High School auditorium.

“The event was so much fun with all the filmmakers walking down the red carpet and getting so excited,” EMAC junior Kristin Schulz said.

The videos, which were open to sixth through 12th graders, were submitted on March 18th.  All the videos differed in length and were expected to be exquisite.

The students of the academy had been meeting every Friday for a month during lunch in order to communicate with each other and give updated information for the event.

“The meetings are really helpful because sometimes we don’t know everything that is going on, and this way they can give us all their information,” Schulz said.

The EMAC Academy broke their students up into committees where they planned things separately and specifically. The four different committees consisted of facilities, publicity, sponsorship and concessions.

The day of the event was a hectic one, with all the EMAC students running around preparing things and making sure everything was in order. All food had to be prepared as well as swag bags for the V.I.P. guests.

“Things got a little crazy, but in the end the event was a success and I think everyone really enjoyed it,” EMAC officer Jack Hobbs said.

The event started off with the V.I.P guests, the filmmakers and sponsors, walking down the red carpet and being interviewed by Sidekick staff members as well as KCBY members. It then continued inside the auditorium where a handful of the entered films were viewed.

“We had professional judges come in and split the categories into middle school and high school,” Hobbs said. “Then they chose a winner for each one.”

In the end, silent films won the number one spot in both categories.

“Even though our film didn’t win, it was still really fun to enter one and go to an event like this,” filmmaker Eric Loop said. “I really want to do something like this again next year.”
