The films are in. Excitement is growing by the day. The next Steven Spielberg or James Cameron could possibly be on the verge of their first breakthrough as a filmmaker.
The Emerging Media and Communications (EMAC) Academy and KCBY-TV at Coppell High School are hosting the inaugural CHS Film Festival. The event will be held in the auditorium at Coppell High School on Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m., with the red carpet welcoming distinguished guests beginning at 6:30 p.m.
“There are a lot of students [in the Coppell community] and in all the middle schools through upper level schools, who I call ‘Weekend YouTubers’,” EMAC Academy lead Irma Kennedy said. “They get together with their friends, they make videos and who sees them? We want to see who’s out there; we want to see their hidden talent, and we want to meet them.”
More than 50 short films from middle school and high school students were submitted to the Coppell ISD-wide festival. The entries have been divided into a middle school (grades six through eight) and high school (grades nine through 12). The free festival is open to the public and concessions will be available for purchase.
KCBY’s short film crew, consisting of seniors Josh Brunelli, Mason Adams, Joe Han, Adam Borel and Eric Park, will debut “The Mammoth Affray,” a student produced short film entered into numerous film festivals nationwide.
A cash prize of $100 will be awarded to winners. Finalists will be announced the week of April 15 both personally and through the event’s official social media feeds.
