Evan Caswell sets new CHS 5K record 3rd place overall in Boys Varsity division with a time of 15:29

The Coppell Cross Country team wrapped up the regular cross country season at the Flower Mound Invitational on Saturday, October 5.  The 5K course located at Lake Park in Lewisville was an excellent venue for the team to live up to the slogan for the 2019 XC season.  The slogan “It’s My Turn”, resonates with each athlete in the form of setting their own personal best time in a 5K.  Along with personal best records a new 5K school record was also set.

The Girls’ team placed 4th overall in the Varsity Girls division.  Shelby Spoor led the girls; she finished in 6th place with a time of 18 minutes, 33 seconds.  Natalie Fleming was right behind her (7th, 18:43).  Morgon Colon (9th, 18:57), Waverly Hassman, and Reezon Eke rounded out the point scorers for the cowgirls this week.

The Cowboys’ placed 2nd overall in the Varsity Boys division.  Evan Caswell was the top runner for Coppell with a 3rd place finish in a time of 15:29, setting a new 5K CHS record.  Colin Proctor (10th, 16:18), Jackson Walker (18th, 16:28), Parker Hicks, and Riley Warner scored team points for Coppell.

The Coppell girls clinched 1st place overall in the JV division.  Coppell was led by Junior Bernice David; she finished in 2nd place with a time of 20:56.  Issabelle Ortizoga (4th, 21:05), Montserrat Tresidder (5th, 21:18), Taylor Peltier and Elizabeth Grace Walker contributed to the first place team score.

The Boys’ finished 2nd overall in the JV Boys division.  Junior Raymundo Aguirre led the boys with a 2nd place finish in a time of 17:10.  Top five finishing teammates were Cameron Churchill-Dowd (5th, 17:20), Andrew Mullen (6th, 17:39), Samuel Martinson, and Blaine Warner.

“Athletes are running well and coming together one by one at the right time,” said Head Coach Nick Benton.  Coach Benton is excited about the opportunities ahead for both teams as they transition into the championship season.   Friday, October 18 Coppell will compete in the District 6-6A Championship at North Lakes Park in Denton.  The District Championship is the conclusion of the JV Cross Country season.  The top three Varsity Cross Country teams, as well as, the top ten individuals in District 6 will qualify to compete in the Region 1-6A Championship in Lubbock.
