JV Girls Perfect Team Score at Falcon Fast Sikyra, EG, Daniela, Tavishka, Monteserrat, Callie, Megan, Emma, & Taylor

Coppell Cross Country competed in California and Texas on Saturday, September 21.  The top seven girls and guys travelled to Norco, CA to compete in the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic at the SilverLakes Sports Complex.  This 2 day event is the largest high school cross country invite in America.  The Sweepstakes races are the grand finale featuring the strongest teams and top individual entries for each gender.   Back in Texas, the majority of the CHS cross country team competed in the Falcon Fast Invitational at Trinity Springs middle school in Keller.

The Cowgirls placed 11th overall in the 3 mile Sweepstakes race at the Woodbridge Classic.  The girls were led by senior Shelby Spoor, she finished 34th overall with a time of 17:11.4, setting a new CHS record.  Chloe Hassman (60th, 17:38), Natalie Fleming (88th, 17:58), Morgan Colon, Waverly Hassman, Reezon Eke, and Louisa Ehinger competed for Coppell. 

The Boys place 9th overall in the 3 mile Sweepstakes race at the Woodbridge Classic.  Junior Evan Caswell finished 12th overall with a time of 14:26.8, also setting a new record at CHS.  Colin Proctor (60th, 14:56), Jackson Walker (87th, 15:09), Rith Bhattacharrya, Sahaj Dahal, Riley Warner, and William Heatherington competed for Coppell.

Much closer to home the rest of the cross country team competed on the Falcon Fast 5K course.  Coppell placed 2nd overall in the Varsity Girls division.  Junior Bernice David was the first to cross the finish; she was 6th overall with a time of 20:49.  Next in for Coppell were Isabella Iseley (8th, 20:55), Isabelle Ortigoza (17th, 21:30), Grace Turman, and Payton Mundhenk.  Coppell boys’ finished 5th overall in the Varsity division.  Senior Parker Hicks lead the cowboys with a 21st place finish in a time of 17:21.  Andrew Crichton (26th, 17:39), Andrew Nester (27th, 17:40), Kavin Chengavarayan, and Andrew Mullen rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.

In the JV division both the girls’ and boys’ teams took 1st place.  The Cowgirls JV team scored a perfect team score of 15.  Freshman Tavishka Arora finished in 1st place with a time of 22:04.  Callie Kutz (2nd, 22:05), Taylor Peltier (3rd, 22:07), Montserrat Tressider (4th), and Elizabeth Grace Walker (5th) rounded out the perfect point scorers for Coppell.  Junior Diego Acosta led the boys, he finished 2nd overall with a time of 18:05.  Mustafa Alrawi (4th, 18:10), Blaine Warner (5th, 18:13), Alfred Fairchild (7th), and Samuel Martinson (8th) scored team points for Coppell this week.

The Woodbridge Classic was a fantastic opportunity to compete with some of the best teams in the country noted Head Coach Nick Benton.  “The kids are working really hard to get ready for the championship season”, said Coach Benton.  “Each week we have several athletes breaking through and running better”.  Next up are the McNeil Invitational and the Southlake II Invitational, both are scheduled for Saturday, September 28.  The top 21 runners from both the girls’ and boys’ teams will travel to Round Rock to compete on the 5K course that is the site for the UIL State XC Championships.  The JV team will compete at Bob Jones Park in Southlake.
