Reezon 8th place overall Open Girls Varsity Coppell 5th place team finish in Open Girls Varsity race

The Southlake Cross Country Invitational at Bob Jones Park in Southlake took place on Saturday, September 7.  The 5K course at Bob Jones was a fast flat course.  The invitational provided Coppell with a great opportunity to work on team score which is based on the top-five athletes’ finishing position in each race.

The Girls’ Varsity team finished 3rd overall in the Elite Varsity Girls division, behind Southlake Carroll and Grapevine.  Coppell got an 11th place finish from Senior Shelby Spoor, she ran across the line at 19:10.4.  Chloe Hassman (34th, 19:50), Natalie Fleming (39th, 19:55), Morgan Colon, and Waverly Hassman rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.  Coppell girls placed 5th overall in the Open Varsity Girls division.  Junior Reezon Eke led Coppell finishing in 8th place overall with a time of 20:52.3.  Next in for Coppell were Avery Hancock (21:48), Rebeca Centeno (21:55), Isabelle Ortigoza, and Daniela Chavarria.

The Varsity Boys team secured 3rd place overall in the Elite Varsity Boys division behind Southlake Carroll and Fayetteville.  Coppell got a top ten performance from Junior Evan Caswell, he was 10th place at 16:10.1.  Colin Proctor (26th, 16:34), Rith Bhattacharyya (36th, 16:43), Sahaj Dahal, and Riley Warner were the top finishers for Coppell.   The Cowboys also placed 3rd overall in the Open Varsity Boys’ race.  Senior William Heatherington led the boys, he finished 19th overall with a time of 17:54.6.  Next in for Coppell were Kavin Chengavarayan (18:00.9), Andrew Crichton (18:05), Parker Hicks, and Andrew Mullen.

The JV Girls placed 4th overall in the Elite JV Girls division.  Junior Bernice David led the girls, she placed 5th overall with a time of 22:30.  Callie Kutz (23:05), Elizabeth Grace Walker (23:16), Montserrat Tresidder, and Tavishka Arora were the top finishers for Coppell.  In the Open JV Girls division, Coppell placed 13th overall.  Sophomore Mika Jarrell led Coppell, she finished 36th overall with a time of 26:05.7.  Sarah Walker, Brooke Shortino, Annelise Holguin, and Shriya Srivastiva rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.

The JV Boys clinched 1st place overall in the Elite JV Boys division, something that Coach Benton is really proud of.  Sophomore Jeevan Janeev finished 4th overall with a time of 19:04. Gregory Sabuncuyan (5th, 19:09), Asheer Jiwani (7th, 19:16), Mustafa Alrawi (8th), and Blaine Warner (9th) rounded out the point scorers.  In the Open JV Boys division, Coppell placed 7th overall.  Sophomore Pedro Feitosa led Coppell, he finished 11th overall with a time of 20:26.3.  Next in for Coppell were Anuraag Ayancha, Jorge Retana, Thomas Nelson, and Anuj Parikh.

Head Coach Nick Benton noted, “Each race the runners are working on little things to prepare the team for district and beyond.   As a whole, we are doing things right and working hard.”  Saturday, September 14 the team will be hosting the Coppell Cross Country Invitational at Coppell West Middle School.  There will be a rolling start at 7:30 am.
