Junior, Jonathon McGill, competing in the long jump was the point leader for the JV boys.

The Coppell High School Track and Field team traveled to Lewisville High School on Thursday, March 8 for the Goldsmith Invitational.  Top area high school teams attending the meet included Southlake Carroll, Lewisville Flower Mound, and Lewisville Marcus.  The Cowboys dominated for a second meet in a row by taking first place in both the varsity and JV divisions. 

The varsity boys finished in 1st place with 152 points.  The team point leader was Senior, Phillip Frank, taking 1st place in the 110M hurdles, 15.11; 1st place in the high jump, 6’0”, and 2nd place in the 300 meter hurdles, 41.65.  Individual 1st place finishes went to Jacob Turman, 400 meters, 49.81; Thomas Edwards, shot put, 48’1”; and Corbin Hick, discus, 160’11”.  Other top finishes included Jackson Walker, 3rd place, 800 meters, 2:01.03; Jayden Walker, 2nd place, 400 meters, 51:59; and Corbin Hicks, 2nd place, shot put, 47’ 7 ½ “.  Matthew Dicken took 2nd place in the triple jump at 44’1 ¼ “, and 3rd place in the long jump, 21’8 ¼ “.  The varsity boys placed 1st place in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:27.94, and 3rd place in the 4x200 meter relay at 1:31.69. 

The JV boys also finished in 1st place with 176 points.  Jonathon McGill was the team point leader taking 1st place in triple jump at 41’10 ½ “, 2nd place in the 100 meters at 11.84, and 3rd place in the long jump at 18’10.75”.  Individual 1st place finishes went to Nathaniel Leach, 800 meters, 2:06.41; Zack Tucker, discus, 126’2”; Sebastian Ardila, long jump, 19’ 4 ¼ “; and Garrison Wheatley, shot put, 45’7”.  Coppell had a three-way tie for pole vault – Evan Harper, Brian Espey, and Gabriel Sosa; each with a 12’0” vault.  Other top finishes included Trevor Strange, 3rd place, shot put, 42’ 5”; Garrett Hardin, 2nd place, long jump, 19’2.5”; and Sebastian Ardila, 3rd place, triple jump, 39’, 4 ¾”.  Justin Murray took 3rd place in the 200 meters at 24.59, and 3rd place in the high jump at 5’8”.  The team placed 1st in the 4x400 meter relay at 3:38.69, and placed 2nd in the 4x100 meter relay at 44.83.

The varsity girls took second place behind Lewisville Marcus.  Senior, Payton Kirk, was the varsity point leader taking 2nd place in the 300 meters hurdles, 47.57; 2nd place in the long jump, 17’ 8 ¾ “; and 3rd place in the pole vault, 10’ 6”.  Other top finishes included Shelby Spoor, 3rd place, 3200 meters, time not available; Sikyra Castle, 2nd place, 400 meters, 59.71; and Nicole Obialo, 2nd place, shot put, 42” 0’.  The team took 1st place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:05.59.

The JV girls placed 2nd overall with 127 points behind Lewisville Marcus in first place with 163.5 points.  Individual first place finishes went to Morgan Colon, 800 meters, 2:26.78; and Sarah Mobley, 400 meters, 1:03.80.  Other top finishes included Reezon Eke, 2nd place in the 800 meters, 2:28.38, and 2nd place in the 400 meters, 1:04.12; Chiamaka Ugwulebo, 3rd place, 200 meters, 27.73; and Yuki Masuda, 2nd place, long jump, 15’11 ¾ “.  The team placed 1st in the 4x400 meter relay at 4:16.96; and 2nd in the 4x100 meter relay at 51.60.

The team’s distance runners will participate in the Southlake Distance Festival on Saturday March 17.  The rest of the team is off this week due to spring break.
