The Coppell High School Track and Field team officially kicked off its season this past Saturday, February 17, 2018 at the Byron Nelson Bobcat Invitational held at Northwest ISD’s Texas Stadium in Justin, TX. Eleven high school teams from the metroplex participated in the meet including Allen, Lewisville Marcus, Lewisville Flower Mound, and Lewisville Hebron.
The Varsity Girls tied Northwest Nelson for 3rd place overall with 92 points. Lewisville Marcus took first with 110 points, and McKinney North took 2nd with 97 points. Senior, Payton Kirk, was the point leader for the Varsity Girls taking 1st place in the 300 meter hurdles at 45.50 and the long jump at 17-05.50. Top finishers for the Varsity Girls were Sikyra Castle, 1st place, 400 meter, 1:01.32; Emma Sherrer, 3rd place, 400 meter, 1:02.20; Rowan Hassman, 3rd place, 800 meter, 2:22.1; and Natalie Fleming, 3rd place, 3200 meter, 11:19.00. The 4x400 meter relay team of Sikyra Castle, Emma Sherrer, Alicia Nash, and Payton Kirk finished in 3rd place at 4:10.00.
The Varsity Boys finished in 4th place overall with 83 points. First place went to Allen with 128 points. Matthew Dicken was the point leader for the Varsity Boys taking 1st place in the Triple Jump, 44-06.00, and 2nd place in the Long Jump, 21-01.00. Other top finishers included Jackson Walker, 2nd place, 800 meter, 1:59.15; Gabriel Lemons, 3rd place, Triple Jump, 42-04.00; David Winegarner, 3rd place, Discus Throw, 134-10. Two relay teams finished in 3rd place – 4x200 meter relay team of Nathan Arispe, Matthew Dicken, Gabriel Lemons, Samir Thota at 1:30.87; and the 4x400 meter relay team of Jaden Walker, Samir Thota, Matthew Dicken, Gabriel Lemons at 3:27.48.
The JV Girls took 2nd place overall with 128.5 points just behind Lewisville Marcus in first with 132.5 points. The team placed 1st in six events. Individual 1st place finishes went to Reezon Eke, 400 meter, 1:04.53; Sarah Mobley 800 meter, 2:29.93; Daniela Flores Alfaro, 3200 meter, 12:05.00; Landri Hubble, Pole Vault, 8-00.00. Two relay teams finished in 1st place - 4x200 meter relay team of Alyssa Lindberg, Yuki Masuda, Issabela Hinojos, Chiamaka Ugwulebo at 1:53.63; and 4x400 Meter Relay team of Savannah Gutierrez, Hannah Switzer, Arohi Srivastav, Reezon Eke at 4:16.00. Other top finishers included Chiamaka Ugwulebo, 2nd place in two events - 100 meter, 12:69, and the Long Jump, 16-02.25; Sydney Rowe, 2nd place, Pole Vault, J8-00.00; and Rachel Okereke, 2nd place, Triple Jump, 36-11.00.
The JV Boys took 2nd placed overall with 108 points behind Allen in first with 133 points. The team placed 1st in four events. Individual 1st place finishes went to Gabriel Sosa, Pole Vault, 12-00.00; Jonathon McGill, Triple Jump, 41-10.00; Wyatt Klawiter, Discus Throw, 116-00. One relay team finished in 1st place - 4x400 Meter Relay team of Brian Espey, Sebastian Ardila, Caden Davis, Cody Gast, 3:36.94. Other top finishers included Christopher Figueroa, 3rd Place, 800 meter, 2:08.89; Marcos Bohn, 2nd place, 3200 meter, 10:01.75; Brian Espey, 2nd place, Pole Vault, 11-06.00; Jonathon McGill, 3rd place, Long Jump, 20-04.00; Johnathon Barker, 3rd place, Shot Put, 37-08.50.
The team will travel to the McKinney Boyd Invitational on Saturday, February 24.
