EMAC to Host First Annual Short Film Festival

The Emerging Media and Communications (EMAC) Academy at Coppell High School is hosting the first annual CHS Film Festival. The event will be held in the auditorium at Coppell High School on Monday, April 29 at 7 p.m.

This festival is a Coppell ISD-wide event, meaning any student from sixth through 12th grade can submit a two to 10-minute short film. The entries will be divided into two divisions: middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (9-12). The winning film will receive a cash prize of $100.

Coppell ISD students are ready to showcase their talents and abilities through their passion for filmmaking.

“There are a lot of students [in the Coppell community] and in all the middle schools through upper level schools that I call ‘Weekend YouTubers’,” EMAC Academy Coordinator Irma Kennedy said. “They get together with their friends, they make videos and who sees their videos? I want to see those videos. I want to see their hidden talent, and I want to meet them.”

With a school full of unknown, talented cinematographers, a festival such as this could be a springboard for students to discover a hidden passion.

“The film festival is a great way to unite students throughout the Coppell community and showcase some of the many talented kids who may not have been noticed otherwise,” EMAC sophomore representative Jamie-Lynn Francis said.

Interested students can submit their DVDs to the KCBY room (A108) until Monday, March 18 at 4 p.m. Students will be notified if their entry is accepted into the festival.
