CHS Vickroy (Photo courtesy of Dana Agnew) CHS Senior Carson Vickroy won first place in the varsity boys 3200-meter run at the Feb. 23 McKinney Boyd Relays. Vickroy was also a member of the distance medley relay team which placed second.

The Coppell Varsity Track teams posted strong finishes at the McKinney Boyd Relays on Saturday, Feb. 23. Of the twelve teams that competed at McKinney’s Ron Poe Stadium, Coppell varsity girls finished third, and varsity boys finished fourth in a very close meet.

Overall, the girls varsity relay teams ran well. Second place went to the 4x100 meter shuttle hurdle team of Kate Rorhbough, Sydney Gainer, Anna Novosadova and Peyton Kingsley. In the 4x400 meter relay, Leah Yates, Chiamaka Ukoha, Novosadova and Sierra Andres finished in third place. Also finishing third was the 4x100 team of Andres, Ukoha, Bailey Bedichek and Adaiwu Nwaiwu. In the 1600-meter sprint medley relay, Andres, Adaiwu, Marian McRae and Olivia Wolford finished fourth. Rounding out the relays in sixth place was the distance medley team of Dayton Perry, Francis Nicole, Dabney Burch and Jessie Cranmer.

Individual event winners for CHS varsity girls were: Second place – Sarah Agnew, pole vault; Cassidy Pickrell, high jump; and Novosadova, 300-meter hurdles. Third place – Ukoha, triple jump. Fourth place – Rosemary Brinegar, pole vault; Bedichek triple jump; and Rorhbough, long jump.

CHS boys varsity relay teams placed for points in four races. Second place went to the distance medley relay team of Shane Murray, Darian Lowe, Clayton Hemphill and Carson Vickroy. Taking fourth was the 4x800 meter relay team of Mikey Gonzalez, Anand Pant, Justin Armenta and George Fairchild, as well as the 4x110 meter shuttle hurdle team of Shane Gothman, Chibuzor Osuji, Adam Centers and John Herubin. The 1600-meter sprint medley team of Collins Okotcha, Chris Amundson, Esere Nesiama and Murray finished sixth.

Individual event winners for the CHS Varsity Boys were: First place – Carson Vickroy, 3200-meter run; and Marcus Mitchell, triple jump. Second place – Mitchell, long jump. Third place – Clayton Hemphill, 3200-meter run. Fifth place – Leo Fan, 3200-meter run; and Osuji, high jump. Sixth place – Blake Mahon, high jump; and Solomon Thomas, shot put.

Coppell junior varsity girls placed fifth, with points posted by: Selase Butasi, AnnMarie Vincenzo, Chinma Omogah, Sarah Slover, Meg Howard, Kaleigh Keyes, Rachel Watley, Cassidy Packer, Abbie Hough, Brittany Valdez, Taylor Stiff, Taylor Bell and AnnKathryn Fadal.

JV boys also placed fifth, thanks to winning performances by: Jacob Murray, Austin Moore, Adam Centers, Brock Ethridge, Elliot Tostrud, Jaret Calvert, Giovant Amaya, Taylor Wilhelm, Jay Harrison, Bo Anderson, Bryce Vonzurmuhlen, Alex Abalos, Dominic Farrell, Cameron Salerno, Noah Freeman and Joey Howerton.
