Annie leads Cowgirls in JV Elite division

The Coppell Cross Country team competed in the Marcus Coach T Invitational on Saturday, September 4.  The 5K course at North Lakes Park in Denton is also the District 6-6A course.  That was not the only experience this invitational offered, four district opponents were among the teams racing.  Coppell used this competitive opportunity to work on team score which is based on the top-five athletes’ finishing position in each race.   

The Coppell girls came away with a 7th place team finish in the Elite Varsity division.  Mallory Sherrer led the cowgirls again this week, she finished 36th overall with a time of 20 minutes, 35 seconds.  Sophomore Alyza Siddiqui (37th, 20:41) finished right on her heels.  Waverly Hassman(43rd, 21:10), Elizabeth Grace Walker and Hanna Noyola rounded out the top five finishers for Coppell.  Coppell girls placed 8th overall in the Open Varsity Girls division.  Sophomore Aria Juma led Coppell finishing in 30th place overall with a time of 22 minutes, 2 seconds.  Next in for Coppell were Saanvi Gaddam (22:31), Lucy Martinson (24:17), Isabelle Ortigoza, and Jeana Scheurich.

In the Elite Varsity Boys division, Andrew Mullen led the cowboys finishing 3rd overall with a time of 16 minutes, 6.4 seconds.  As a team, Coppell came away with a 6th place finish behind district rivals Plano West and Flower Mound.  Karthikeyan Parthipan (36th, 17:06), Kavin Chengavarayan (42nd, 17:16), Sam Martinson, and Ashan Habeeb rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.  The Cowboys placed 5th overall in the Open Varsity Boys’ race.  Senior Jeevan Janeev led the boys, he finished 18th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 4 seconds.  Next in for Coppell were Krish Vinish (18:06), Samarth Dubey (18:18), Aadarsh Sankar, and Lane Jacobs.

Annie Reeder was Coppell’s top runner in the Elite JV Girls division, finishing 54th overall with a time of 24:57.  The Elite JV Girls placed 8th as a team.  Also scoring team points for Coppell were Mehak Khandelwal (25:05), Haneen Awad, Saakshi Barve, and Brianna Henderson.  

The JV Boys placed 4th overall in the Elite JV Boys division.  Junior Asheer Jiwani led the way finishing 1st overall with a time of 18 minutes.  He was followed by teammates Grant O’Neal (18th, 19:33), Jase Wilson (19:34), Cameron Churchill-Dowd, and Anuraag Ayancha. 

The results from the Marcus Coach T Invitational showed improvement according to Head Coach Landon Wren.  “There is plenty to work on now that we’ve gotten a good look at some of our district opponents”, said Coach Landon.  “We are not completely healthy as a team, but we are getting closer”.  Saturday, September 11; the team will be hosting the Coppell Cross Country Invitational at Coppell West Middle School.  There will be a rolling start at 7:30 am.
