The Southlake Carroll Cross Country Invitational at Bob Jones Park in Southlake took place on Saturday, August 28.  The 5K course at Bob Jones has a reputation for being a fast flat course.  Now add pre-Covid racing conditions of around 25 teams in each division.  The end result is going to be great competition that pushes athletes to dig deeper and run faster.

The Cowgirls’ finished 3^rd overall in the Open Varsity Girls division.  Freshman Mallory Sherrer finished with a top ten performance.  Mallory was 7^th overall with a time of 19 minutes, 43 seconds.  Coppell got an 11^th place finish from Sophomore Alyza Siddiqui, she ran across the line at 19 minutes, 56 seconds.  Hanna Noyola (42^nd, 20:58), Elizabeth Grace Walker, and Aria Juma rounded out the point scorers for Coppell.

The Cowboys’ finished 9^th overall in the Elite Varsity Boys division.  Coppell got a top ten performance from Junior Andrew Mullen; he finished in 7^th place with a time of 15 minutes, 24 seconds.  Karthikeyan Parthipan (31st, 16:07), Kavin Chengavarayan (66^th, 16:40), Ashan Habeeb, and Samuel Martinson rounded out the top finishers for Coppell.   The Cowboys placed 6th overall in the Open Varsity Boys’ race.  Sophomore Henry Henze led the boys, he finished 12^th overall with a time of 17:09.  Next in for Coppell were Krish Vinish (17:52), Samarth Dubey (17:55), Cole Stehly, and Nicholas Kho. 

The JV Girls placed 6^th overall in the Elite JV Girls division.  Freshman Rachel Arrington led the girls, she placed 19^th overall with a time of 22 minutes, 30 seconds.  Lucy Martinson (22:50), Ava Beaty (23:39), Jeana Scheurich, and Mahek Khandelwal were the top finishers for Coppell. 

The JV Boys placed 7th place overall in the Elite JV Boys division.  Freshman Grant O’Neal finished 29^th overall with a time of 18 minutes, 56 seconds. Jonas Rogers (46^th, 19:15), Dillon Khera (49^th, 19:19), Kyle Mobley, and Kushal Kantharaja rounded out the point scorers. 

Head Coach Landon Wren emphasized that the amount of competition and the opportunity to compete against district and regional opponents at this meet was valuable.  He is really proud of how hard the varsity girls competed.   Coach Wren said, “A number of girls were out today, however the girls that ran really stepped up.  Five girls ran faster than last week”.  On the boys side Coach Wren stated, “Andrew and Karthi both set personal records, as did five runners in the Open Varsity division.  We learned a little bit about ourselves today”.  Coach Wren also added, “Many of our JV athletes are young and learning what it take to work hard.  I’m looking forward to seeing them grow”.  Next Saturday, September 4 Coppell Cross Country will be competing in the Steve Telaneus Invitational at North Lakes Park in Denton.
