Teammates and Coaches celebrate with Mullen

Andrew Mullen ran his best race of the cross country season at the UIL 6A State Cross Country Championship in Round Rock on Saturday, November 6.  He competed as an individual boys’ 6A qualifier.  Andrew posted a 5K time of 15 minutes, 17.1 seconds for a 7th place finish.  Head Coach Landon Wren was proud of the way Andrew ran and competed.

“Andrew’s 7th place finish was a result of all the hard work he’s put into every practice and meet this season,” said Coach Wren.  “To run well at the state meet is one thing, but to set a personal record at the state meet is quite the accomplishment.  His goal was to finish in the top ten and he executed his race plan perfectly.  Before the race Andrew was very focused and he ran with a determination I have not yet seen.  I’m excited to see what’s in store for Andrew as he continues to grow.  I know he’ll be an integral part of what we plan to accomplish as a team next season.”  Andrew was the sole representative of the Coppell cross country program competing on the 5K state course in Old Settlers Park.

There is one more competitive cross country event on the Coppell Calendar.  Top runners from both the Girls’ and Boys’ teams will travel to Bear Branch Park in the Woodlands to compete in the Nike South Regional meet on Saturday, November 20.  The Nike South Regional Meet is a qualifier meet for the Nike National Meet in Oregon.  The top 2 teams and top 10 individuals will qualify to run at the Nike National Meet.
