Mallory, Alexa, & Waverly ran together Cowgirls 5th overall at District Championship

Cowboys extend championship season with a third place team finish at the District 6-6A Championship on Friday, October 15.  Once again Coppell, four Lewisville ISD schools, and three Plano ISD schools competed on the 5K course at North Lakes Park in Denton.  Head Coach Wren pointed out, “We knew we were going to have to run well to have a chance to finish in the top 3 and qualify for regionals.  I believe our district may be the best cross country district in the state.”

The Cowboys finished with 59 points, behind Plano West (41) and Flower Mound (56).  Andrew Mullen ran the top time for Coppell with a 3rd place finish of 16 minutes, 17 seconds.  Vedant Bhattacharyya (6th, 16:36) also posted a top ten finish.  They were followed by teammates Karthikeyan Parthipan (13th, 16:54), Ashan Habeeb (18th, 17:14), Kavin Chengavarayan (19th, 17:17), Nicolas Martinez (28th, 17:45), and Sam Martinson (32nd, 17:52).  Coach Wren said, “I’m super proud of the boys for executing our race plan and leaving it all on the course.  I’m looking forward to watching them compete in Lubbock at the regional meet.”

The Coppell girls’ varsity team finished fifth overall.  Coppell’s top three finishers; Alexa Turati (21st, 20:43), Waverly Hassman (22nd, 20:44), and Mallory Sherrer (24th, 20:51) ran together.  Elizabeth Grace Walker (27th, 21:16), Hanna Noyola (34th, 21:50), Aria Juma (22:17), and Avery Hancock (22:29) also represented Coppell in the varsity race.  Coach Wren commented, “I’m so proud of the effort that our girls ran with at the district meet.  Even though we fell a little short, it wasn’t for lack of effort or execution.”

Coppell JV boys’ wrapped up the championship season with a 2nd place team finish.  James Tan led the boys, he finished 6th overall with a time of 17 minutes, 51 seconds.  He was closely followed by Cameron Churchill-Dowd (8th, 17:52), Samarth Dubey (9th, 17:57), Cole Stehly (11th, 18:05), and Jeevan Janeev (12th, 18:06).  “The boys were determined to run well, and one could see that as the race went on.  The work ethic of our JV boys has me excited about the future of the boys’ program,” said Coach Wren.

Coppell JV girls finished off the championship season with a 4th place team finish.  Megan Peltier was Coppell’s top runner.  She placed 7th overall with a time of 21 minutes, 48 seconds.  Saanvi Gaddam (11th, 22:05), Rachel Arrington (18th, 22:46), Annie Reeder (19th, 22:54), and Jeana Sheurich (25th, 23:01) contributed to the JV district team score.  “The JV girls finished just 6 points out of 2nd place,” said Coach Wren.  “The youth of this group combined with the youth on varsity is reason to be excited about where the girls’ program is headed.”

Coach Wren is very fond of all of the seniors that ran in their last cross country meet on Friday.  “There are some really good leaders in this group,” said Coach Wren.  “I wish them nothing but the best.  Fortunately, I will work with many of them this spring during Track season.”  The varsity boys’ team will compete in the Region 1-6A Championship on Monday, October 25 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
