Search for 'Witness Trees' in Coppell

Would you like to try and find the oldest trees in Coppell?

The Coppell Historical Society is inviting the community to look for "Witness Trees" — the oldest and largest trees in the area — during a unique event on Saturday.

Anyone who is interested in searching for old trees that have witnessed Coppell's historical events can meet for instruction at 9 a.m. on April 21 at Coppell Fire Station 3, which is located just west of Town Center. Partipants will be divided into teams and given more information. The event will last until 11:30 a.m. when the team captains will report back to the fire station with their findings.

During the event, participants will cover six local historic areas, including Grapevine Springs, the Trinity River (where baptisms occurred) and Wagon Wheel Park, to identify and measure possible "Witness Trees." Everyone who attends is asked to wear appropriate clothing, hats and shoes for walking through brush.

You do not need any experience to participate in the event and can find out more information by contacting the Coppell Historical Society at (972) 462-8192 or wwilsonjr@theatrecoppell.com.
