Coppell has earned recognition for meeting the "highest principles of governmental budgeting," according to the City.

Coppell's 2011-12 budget document received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

The honor is given to entities who are rated "proficient" in four categories, which include 1) a policy document, 2) a financial plan, 3) an operations guide and 4) a communications device. There are fourteen mandatory criteria in each category.

"When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to an entity, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for its having achieved the award," according to the City. "This has been presented to Jennifer Miller, Director of Finance."

Serving more than 17,000 North American government finance professionals, the GFOA offers "the only national awards program in governmental budgeting," according to the City.
