McNeil Invitational Is Cancelled; CHS Cross Country Takes 2nd at Falcon Fast Invitational Instead

The top 14 runners from both the Girls and Boys teams were prepared to travel to Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock to compete in the McNeil Invitational on Saturday, September 30.  On Thursday, September 28 a decision was made to cancel the meet.  The decision was based on recent rain; forecast for additional rain; accommodating a course change; the need for parking in already wet areas; and preserving the park for upcoming meets.  Over 6,500 runners were expected, this would have been one of the biggest meets of the Texas 2017 high school cross country season.  As a result of this cancellation, the CHS Cross Country team participated in the Keller Timbercreek Falcon Fast Invitational at Trinity Springs Middle School in Fort Worth.

The Varsity Girls team secured a 2nd place finish behind Southlake Carroll.  Junior Maddie Hulcy led Coppell with an 8th place finish in a time of 18:16.59.  Next for Coppell were Freshmen Natalie Fleming (18:47.69) in 16th place, Chloe Hassman (19:03.32) in 19th place, and Morgan Colon in 30th place.  Junior Rowan Hassman took 40th place to round out the top five finishers for Coppell.

The Varsity Boys team also grasped a 2nd place finish behind Southlake Carroll.  Senior Matteo Aguis-D’Arrigo crossed the finish line first for Coppell.  He placed 13th overall in a time of 16:15.47.  Right on his heels was Marcos Bohn with a 14th place finish in a time of 16:16.54.  Nathaniel Leach (16:24.00) placed 19th, Grant Reese placed 24th, and Kaz Carlsen-Phelan in 37th place made up the top five finishers for Coppell.

The JV Girls team likewise took 2nd place behind Southlake Carroll.  Freshman Bernice David was the top finisher for the JV girls coming in 4th place with a time of 20:30.71.  Joni Goh (21:13.89) finished in 15th place, Zayna Siddiqui (21:31.71) placed 20th, Catherine Kimball in 23rd place, and Savannah Guitierrez in 46th place were the top five JV Girl finishers.

The JV Boys finished in 2nd place behind Southlake Carroll also.  Junior Santiago Escalante led the JV Boys this week finishing in 11th place with a time of 17:38.  Other top five finishers for Coppell were Chris Figueroa (17:44) in 13th place, Drew Scrivner (17:51) in 16th place, Rith Bhattacharyya in 21st place, and Tyler Sewell in 25th place.

Next on the schedule for Coppell is the Dallas Jesuit Classic at Norbuck Park in Dallas on Friday, October 6 at 7:30 am.  Come out and cheer on your Coppell Cross Country team.
