Typical September heat returned for the 2017 Gerald Richey Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie.  Between the late morning start and hot temperature this invitational was more a measure of toughness than of speed. 

The Varsity Girls team won 1st place in Division II.  Junior, Maddie Hulcy was back this week and captured a 1st place finish with a time of 19:11.1.  Other impressive top five finishers were Chloe Hassman (19:31.7) in 3rd place, Natalie Fleming (19:46.0) in 5th place, Rowan Hassman in 6th place, and Izzy Iseley in 8th place.

The Varsity Boys team brought back a 2nd place finish just behind Lucas Lovejoy.  Senior, Matteo Agius D’Arrigo led Coppell with a 3rd place finish in a time of 16:15.1.  Senior, Grant Reese was next for Coppell with a 6th place finish and time of 16:37.8.  Marcos Bohn (17:07.2) in 13th place, Garrett Freddo in 14th place, and Quinn Proctor in 22nd place rounded out the top five finishers for Coppell.

The JV Girls team also clinched 1st place with a perfect team score of 15.  This week Junior, Katelin Reznicek led the JV Girls with a 1st place finish in a time of 21:42.9.  Jimena Benavides (22:21.1) took 2nd, Catherine Kimball (22:27.3) placed 3rd, Bernice David in 4th, and Sara Mobley in 5th rounded out the perfect team score.

The JV Boys team also brought back 2nd place, behind Lucas Lovejoy.  Junior, Fernando Cornjo-Vazquez led Coppell with a 2nd place finish in a time of 18:18.4.  Top five finishing teammates were Riley Warner (18:30.0) in 5th, Rith Bhattacharyya (18:30.9) in 6th, Drew Scrivner in 10th, and Parker Hicks in 11th.

Returning to the schedule this season is the Coppell Invitational.  Saturday, September 23 the Coppell Invitational will be held at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine at 7:30 am.  This is the ideal opportunity to come out and make some noise for your Coppell Cross Country team.
