Coppell Invitational Returns to CHS Cross Country Schedule

Saturday, September 23 the Coppell Invitational once again was a part of the CHS Cross Country Schedule.  The 5K course ran along Lake Grapevine at Meadowmere Park in Grapevine.  Seventeen teams competed in the debut of a revived tradition thanks to Coach Benton and the Cross Country Booster Club.

The Varsity Girls team brought back a 1st place trophy.  Maddie Hulcy crossed the finish line first for Coppell.  She placed 3rd overall in a time of 18:55.4.  Freshman Natalie Fleming was next for Coppell in 5th place with a time of 19:10.2.  Chloe Hassman (19:24.6) in 6th place, Morgan Colon in 7th place, and Rowan Hassman in 9th place rounded out the top five finishers for Coppell.

The Varsity Boys team also clinched 1st place.  Leading the boys was Matteo Agius-D’Arrigo.  He placed 2nd overall in a time of 16:23.2.  Junior Marcos Bohn was next for Coppell with a 4th place finish in a time of 16:32.2.  Nathaniel Leach (16:46.1) took 8th place, Justin Chow (16:54) set a personal record was 11th, and Kaz Phelan in 15th made up the top five finishers for Coppell.

The Junior Varsity Girls team captured 1st place with close to perfect score of 17.  This week Sophomore Sidney Rowe captured a 1st place finish in a time of 20:52.1.  Other impressive top five finishers were Shelby Spoor (21:21.2) in 2nd, Jimena Benavides (21:21.8) in 3rd, Joni Goh in 5th, and Bernice David in 6th place.

The Junior Varsity Boys were the last to run the course and secure a 1st place finish.  Freshman Evan Caswell led the charge with a 2nd place finish in a time of 17:51.4.  Grant Evans (17:56.2) finished 3rd, Colin Proctor (18:00.6) in 5th, Chris Figueroa in 6th, and Riley Warner in 10th place rounded out the top five finishers for Coppell.

Next weekend the top 14 runners from both the Girls and Boys teams will travel to Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.  There they will compete in the McNeil Invitational on Saturday, September 30.  The course at the McNeil Invitational is the same course used at the state meet, finish strong Coppell.
